Default Remote locking problems

My car (2004 WRX) has never had a great range on the remote locking, but over the last year or so it has got worse and worse. I've replaced the batteries in both keys and it's made no difference. I have to hold the key up to the window and press (and hold) the button maybe two or three times before it unlocks, yesterday the heat seemed to make it even worse!

I know it's not the batteries, i'm assuming it's not the keys as they will eventually unlock, i've cleaned the sensor in the window so i'm guessing it must be something else in the car.

Has anyone else had any problems with theirs? How far away does yours unlock?

Has anyone got any suggestions for a fix?

Cheers

No problems with mine (2003 WRX), unlocks about 15ft away.

What about the button contacts in the key? could be dirty. Does the button work reliably if you reset the immobiliser? (key in ignition). If it does then that would eliminate the key being the problem.

Could also be external interference, although I think that was only an issue with the classic. Does it happen when you park in different places?

Hi i had a problem like this with my classic, had radio block out but yours shouldnt get this as its newer also my electrics for my alarm was wrapped around the cable for the arial which caused interferance, got this sorted out for £30 by a bloke called chris downs (top man in grimsby) might be worth a try to check if the loom is around the arial

Interferance sounds logical, but i'm sure it didn't used to be this bad and i've not changed anything electrical!

OK so it's unlikely to be the key/keys. I had the Interference fault on my classic which was fixed under warranty by improved shielding on the ECU.

Not heard of this issue on a new age before though.

This morning I managed to unlock the car but it wouldn't turn over and the alarm started. Looks like it's a battery issue. I'll get another tomorrow and report back.

Right then. New battery fitted (getting that bloody battery clamp back on the back was a right pain in the ***!). Starts fine. Remote locking's no better though I took it for a spin tonight and tried the locks in two different locations away from overhead cables, transmitters etc and it was still ****e.
The saga continues...
