05 STi PPP - To Decat or not, that is the question...
Hi fellas,
I am going to get my PPP remapped in about a months time, it's currently standard bar the Blitz Nur Spec R I fitted. Now before remapping I am thinking whether or not it is wise to get the downpipe decatted, if so which one do I go for and do I get a 3" downpipe and get it welded straight to my exhaust so it's a full 3" system as apposed to a 3" to 2.5" dropdown.
As it's a PPP it already has a sports cat so i'm just wondering if there is likely to be any power advantage or whether my money is best spent elsewhere before the remap (if so, any suggestions?).

How long is a piece of string? I'm not after a particular figure in all honesty, just the best I can get with minimal modifications. I want to get it remapped anyway to unlock extra power and improve fuel consumption so any mods I can do before it which will help along the way would be great.
Breathing mods perhaps? Not sure what I need as it's already got the PPP on it, Duncan said I don't need to touch the fuel pump as it's an already uprated component as part of the PPP.

Could get a better panel filter. Possible to get 330-340 bhp with similar torque just from re-mapping as it is. Think the sportscat is good for 400+ bhp IIRC. Need to change turbo and I think injectors to go to that level though.
Speak with Duncan, he will be best placed to advise you.

PS and stop poking your tongue out, it's rude

Green or K and N filter. Your decision re decat vs MOT time and insurance issues. For 10 bhp in 340 ish, is it really worth it.................I kept the sportscat.

Hi Gurdas.
The Cosworth panel filter is very good and cheap too at £30.
As dnc said I probably wouldnt bother with the decat unless you are after the last drop of power as they dont restrict it that much and for the hassle factor come MOT time the cons possibly outweigh the benefits.

Don't waste either your time or money on changing the downpipe.
I had an 05 STI PPP remapped a few years ago by Andy Forrest
He told me that I'd be looking at approx 15bhp more with full decat - so in the great scheme of things its not worth it as you'll suffer pain each time MOT comes up

I've gone and put a cat centre pipe back in .. just not worth the hassle for MOTs IMO .. and there is negligible effect .. lets face it for day 2 day driving these things are pretty quick as they are .. so unless you are doing track days .. stick with it .. well that's my view anyway
