our turntable project
6 months ago we was approached by a company to manufacture custom turntables.
At first I wasn't sure this was our kind of thing, somehow we was recommened to this customer by a old one of ours and he recommened us for quality machining and this is what this guy needed.
After hours and hours of meetings and going through drawings we took on the project and I am glad we did, this has been very interesting for us and we have now nearly finished the first few prototypes
Below are some pictures of two of the designs, single layer and a double decker but there are many more... the design is not yet complete but I will update when they are all finished.
These are not cheap guys and you won't find them in your local currys - I am told the sound quality is second to none... each part is made from high spec alloy or stainless steel and very made to very tight limits polished then anodized...... hours and hours of work
We have made every parts except the plater where the lp sits and needle arms
Have a look, see what you think

The tone-arm assembly design (and execution ) looks very nice. To be truthful though I think the overall design looks a bit 'chunky' and a more minimalist look would be better. I think there are some similar(ish) ones made by Pro-ject.
As above the individual parts look to be of a very high standard. Good to see a bit of diversification aswell. Hope it takes off for you.

If you do a search on " Clear audio " They can sell for upto 18k each but that is for a big dog.. I think this sort of design is around 2k - I maybe wrong.... I am not selling them , just making them
Yes I know Myles, but it is still down to precision engineering and that is what we do.. regardless if it is for a car or not, all good fun
The guy has been designing them since 2008 and really knows his stuff.... some of the spec blew me away... not sure how far he is away from testing them as they are still waiting for us, about two weeks before we have all the pieces ready

Engineering and good turntables go hand in hand, Linn audio, one of the best, is all down to quality components. The motor assembly totaly indpendent of the plinth is the way to go the thin rubber band gets rid of the remaining harmonic vibration. Big money to be had if you get rave reveiws in the hi fi mags. I spent a the price of a good performance car on hi fi when i was younger but my ears are shot now thanks to 30 years in a engineering factory. I know one thing tho wish subaru employed your good selfs in 2007 when they put that double din amstrad tranny in a 20k car. Good luck with the project.
