i got told from the previous owner my car has a uprated fuel pump,however i havent checked it as its always made a whining noise and iv assumed it it true..
does a high pressure fuel pump whine when you turn the ignition on?

my walbro does the same. whines when ignition on an makes a constant whine on idle

 

thats exactly what mine does,constantly whines all the time (ignition on and idle)
i was about to check it today but i left my toolbox at my mates so didnt get around to doing it,i hope i have a walbro fuel pump as im getting it remapped very soon

can a standard fuel pump do the same with a adjustable fpr?

 

not sure mate. i cant remember if the standard whined at all but defworth checkin a it will make the diference on mapping day with right mods

 

My JDM STi emits a "hum" more than a whine but it's audible on turning the ignition on, you can hear it pressurising.

 

I think even with a standard pump you will hear a slight noise when switching on the ignition. Its completely normal. Uprated pumps are noisier though.
