Default any good places to drive in near North London

Hi Everyone,

Got my 2002 wrx 8 weeks ago- but i live in London (Finchley), so i'm getting a but frustrated as i'm sitting in traffic most of the time..... its like being a kid with a bmx- but with no bmx track to ride on! Wish i lived in the country where there was some nice twisty stuff to drive.

When i lived in Sheffield years ago there was a old bit of land- where you could take your car for a few quid -also I grew up in sussex and we used to go to an old airfield (for free) where no-one minded if you drove enthusiastically.

I'm planning to do a few track days and maybe scooby sprint- but in the mean time wouldn't mind finding somewhere to 'safely' drive fast... as in my eyes tearing around suburbia is NOT cool! any ideas?

cheers,

Paul

I would say Essex has some great driving roads. Have found a few around Ongar but still scouting the area at the moment.

If you are back up north (am a Sheffield lass myself) try Hathersage as the roads around there are fantastic!

the a406 is big enough, or go for a nice drive from barnet to st albans there is some nice roads but just be careful. if you want to drive hard do a track day mate is safer. try macdonalds car park on a sunday theres always a big turn out there on sunday evenings

yeah.... its pretty good round there-

from potters bar upwards is good- visited a friend in epping green yesterday- lots of twisty stuff and very quiet...

Potholes like crazy everywhere after the cold winter though-hit one as big as me the other day!

thanks for replies.

about 10 miles from me but you need to come the chemsford side of ongar for a good drive. Coming from ongar to chelmsford stretch of the a414 turn left sign posted Cooksmill green. Now thats where the really good, quiet open roads start.

Newgate Street is another good area. All these roads are only 20 mins or so from Finchley. If you ever get bored give me a a shout. I'm down in Southgate

As above really, I live in Hatfield....not to far from Finchley, and the roads are superb. Especially the A414

I'm in east london, and regularly visit my best mate in who lives in Finchley. Find that the a406 is quite good fun (not worth it if there is any type of traffic on it though!!) Otherwise areas in essex around the stapleford abbots area, are very good fun!

I've got a dark blue 2002 "52" WRX bug, and it loves the essex roads!
