Hi and welcome mate!!!!

You said you wanted your first Impreza STI, the one on e-bay is a WRX mate, not a STi, And there are plenty of WRX's with the same mileage and age for under 5k, My dad paid 4k for his 52 reg Bugeye WRX with 70k miles on the clock and FSH and the same sort of mods.

Neil,

Have a good browse around on here before you go and look. Get a mate who's into Scoobs to go with you. I hope your prepared for the running cost and insurance (Old Gp 20 on an STI). Follow your head not your heart.

The first one is simply a tarted up WRX (nothing wrong with that).........the second has a bigger turbo and has been re-mapped. The TD05 turbo is a tough critter and if mapped to the full potential can be a risk to the engine, clutch and geartrain. Says it has EcuTeK map but the Denso ECU can't actually hold two full maps or do true launch control.

Personally I'd go for the bugeye STi.......bullet proof engine and gearbox to 400 BHP

sorry i've been out as answered above yes and a lot more besides.

depending on what your looking at doing in the future if it was me i'd go for the sti 100% especially if insurance is not so much of an issue, the base car is so much easier and will cost less in the long run to get more power from than the wrx.

biggest thing for me is that the sti has vvt heads makes the world of difference when running a bigger turbo and a lot stronger engine internals, coupled with the better brakes and 6 speed box.

wrx is a nice car but if you want over 350bhp say reliably at some point then it's going to cost you a few thousand, just bare in mind a 6 speed set up will be £2k or over as you'll need that or a new gearbox and a brembo set up is going to be around £400 - £500.

everybody i know that has a wrx wishes they had started with the a sti.

help it helps you little but as long as you find the right car and your happy then it's all good

thanks for that, I am not really looking into dong the car up as yet, But would like a WRX running 300hp and be reliably at that, That should be ok if the owener has done it right and not just bolted things here and there and hey presto 300hp that is unreliable,

I really do like the black scooby in my first post as it has been looked after and the power is there, As that is plenty for me,

To get a STI for the price i want is unlikely right now, I can get one but dont want to skint myself right now though

The black one does not appear to have had the turbo changed...........if it's still running the OEM TD04 turbo then it will be a *miracle* if it made 302 BHP. LOL

If the blue one is nearby then take a look I ran a bug WRX with TD05 and supporting mods at 325 BHP but mapped by Bob Rawle to stop it all falling apart LOL.

Should be OK (no guarantee) if all done to a high standard

they will be alot more thirsty than your vec!

although alot more fun.

i understood they are alot more thirsty than my vec, but actually seeing the pennies going each week for fuel is different than thinking it will go.

if that makes any sense

be prepaired than add alot more.

lots and lots of good knowledge and people on here to help in your search for a scoob.

just ask
