Trackers are only valid for insurance purposes if you have a valid subscription. For that and before you can activate the tracker (you only do that when you need to find it, they're normally dormant) you'll need the right code to be tracked. If you don't have that code and an active subscription with a tracking service, it doesn't matter whether it has one or not, you'll probably have to fit a completely new one.

I looked at trackers after Direct Line quoted a great price (around £300) but will only insure if I had a tracker. With them costing £600+ to buy and an annual subscription it worked out cheaper just to pay a higher insurance premium.
