Question how do you know when your brakes are cooked?

I was on a spirited drive at the weekend and after a few quick stops my brakes started to judder a bit under braking even from slower speeds. following a bit of a cool down they were fine and normal slightly spongey service was resumed.

I think the worst thing about my 03 Sti is the brakes and being brembos I thought they would be good. How can I tell if my pads and disks are past it. The pads look quit low and the discs look ok but a little marked/scored. Do they have pad sensors? Are there specific measurements the disc should be ebfore considering replacing and the same for the pads?

I remember the day i changed my motorbike brake line to braided one's it was like night and day. What's the best solution to get stopping power?

So many questions...any help appreciated

When you have your foot pushed thru the floor and still nothing is happening, that is when your brakes are cooked.

If you think ther Brembo's are bad then you should be glad you didnt buy a classic with the standard subaru 4 pots on!!

It also depends what pads you have, something I never skrimp on is brake pads. always buy the best you can afford, preferably Ferodo ones.

Fit some decent discs, pads, braided hoses and DT5.1 and see how that feels. DBA or PF discs with PF or DS 2500 pads should do the trick.

you surprise me, I have Brembos and have never had any issue's with fade (fast road use not track), I am now running Black Diamond predator pads which are even better. If you did over heat the brakes I don't think that they would have juddered tho are sure it wasn't something else

Mine overheated to the point of smoke and no pedal!!! New uprate discs, mintex racing pads, motul brake fluid. These have turned my wooden, non responsive brakes to what the car should have had in the first place!!

Judder will be warped disks due to overheating or cracking won't it?

Judder through the steering wheel is front, through the pedal is usually the rears. It can lead to cracked discs- but you'd really have to be punishing them!

Judder may just be pad deposits. Do the discs have a smeared appearance, if so normal driving will wear off the deposits in a couple of hundred miles.

The standard pads suck anyway they are quite wooden sometimes, found them to be inconsistant.

My car, god rest its poor soul after Sundays incident, had the standard subaru 4 pots with mintex 1144 pads braided hoses and dot5 fluid and I thought the brakes where pretty good. never had an issue with them not working.
