Default 30,000 mile service due and alloy problem

Hi,
30,000 mile service is due and local Subaru dealer in Northampton is quoting £500, does this sound reasonable? Anyone know of any specialists in the Northampton area who could do the same thing for less.
Also, one of my alloys is corroded internally and is affecting the tyre sealing resulting in me having to inflate it on a weekly basis as it loses air slowly. Is this something that can be repaired or is it worth getting a new wheel (Subaru asking £215 for a new alloy) just a standard WRX 2005 5 spoke alloy!
Any comments would be appreciated.
Thanks
Ben

Not sure about the service, not my area.

But with the wheel, check its not covered under warranty, probably not if they've already quoted you for an alloy. That kind of thing is usually repairable fairll cheaply. Those wheels are easy enough to pick up second hand anyway. Under 200 quid for a full set!

£500 does sound a bit high to me, I had my 30k service done a few weeks ago (06 WRX) and was charged less than £300, this was done at the Subaru dealer where I brought the car from, Slip End Garages near Luton.

Note the car is possably a 2005 as the OP points to it having 2005 wrx alloys on, so its not a 30k service its a 50k/5 year service (cambelt service).

try a tyre fitters to see if they can help you out.

one of mine had a leak like yours, same thing with the corrosion. the fitter said they were getting loads in with the same problem due to the masses of salt on the roads through the winter and it was causing a seal problem.

he put some sort of gunk on it that dried black and that did the trick, it might not be the same problem as yours but worth a try.

i then had the wheels refinished and they're 100% back to normal. for the price of one alloy you're well on the way to getting them refurbished worth thinking about

Cheers for all the replies. You are right that the car is coming up to 5 years old, just done 29000 miles, the garage have quoted me for a 30,000 mile service, so basically a full service plus transmission oil, no mention of cambelt service at all. Having just phoned 4 subaru garages they are all quoting £497 for the 30k service and £455 for the 50k service. Oh well, no-one ever said having fun and driving would be cheap!!

just out of interest which dealer are you on about?? is it westaway in spratton?, i ordered a part for mine from them, although no problem with part or dealer they just dont look very proffesional and i would really think twice about taking my car there. but thats just the first impression i got when going there, really not what i expected to see just doesnt look anything like a main dealer more a dodgy second hand car lot.

Get onto Carnetix, they are in Melton Mowbray so not that far from you, can highly recommend them for your service.

subaru have been replacing wheels on legacys under warranty due to corrosion around the centre cap find a dealer who will submit a claim rather than just saying no, all subaru will do is either decline it or accept it

I second that, had the same service done there on Thursday, quote was £375, my bill was much larger though due to my rear shocks. Highly recommended though, I was going to head to a main dealer, Prob Slip End but they wanted £500! God knows what it would have been with the shocks aswell!!!

My advice is Northants Subaru definately !
