Question What's the more desirable classic?

Hi all

I'm new to the site, and new to scoobies, so i'm wondering what peoples opinions are on the more desirable classic? I'm mainly talking about UK models here, but if the Jap models are really worth the 'hassle', then let me know.

I've had a look on Scoobypedia to try and gain some knowledge and it appears there are three main models, with the 97- being the facelift and the 99- having a few last tweaks before going to the later model car. Is this a fair assessment?

I believe the 99 cars are harder to remap, with only a couple of options (EcuTek and replacement management I believe), which is one thing that's putting me off (as I wish to custom remap it myself), but are there other features on the 99 cars that are worth going for instead of an easily-hacked ECU?

Does the fundamental chassis design remain consistent throughout the three variants? Eg, geometry, suspension components, drivetrain design etc..?

All thoughts and opinions wanted..

Thanks

type r sti, its worth the hassle getting an sti as the uk's had a bit less power and you'll be chasing the power of an sti before you start. there the best looking scoob in my eyes after the 22b, 2 door with all the dccd you'd be laughing.

The most desirable uk classics are the ltd edition models I would reckon, the best being the RB5 but closely followed by the P1
The RB5 may not be the most powerfull but it is the classiest and best looking

i would say the p1 as its a my99 to 00 its a 3 door,uk car with better styling and has the power of the sti also ltd edition so not going to be seeing them everywhere, there you go best of both worlds! only down side is you have to have it in sonic blue, but thats not really a bad thing either as they look great in that colour!

nah, no DCCD and far more common than v6 sti RA v limited's...which iirc were also limited to 1000 cars, JDM so far less over here whereas the 1000 P1's were all UK cars

If you are in the market for a classic then take my advice - buy on condition! There may be many desirable models out there but if you buy a thrashed example - very likely! then it could turn into a wallet hoover.

I bought a classic as a daily smoker and considerered all models - but ended up buying a little gem with everything spot on. There are some really ropey cars out there and with classics being at least 10 years old then you have to be careful

spot on imo. buy the best u can find, as much history as possible, and as few owners as possible.

version 1 sti wagon all the way, rare as rocking horse poo, and a cracking car all round, im slightly biased as i have one, but really good car, genuinely worth having over a uk car, as has been said, you would be chasing the power of an sti before you even start, so you may as well buy sti to start with.

i have a hawkeye GB270 wagon and a '94 SA sti Wagon. Drove them back to back today and they are completely different cars with their own merits.

The Classic is so raw, noisey, pointy, lively and feelsome its untrue whereas the Hawkeye is far more civilised, smooth and better finished. For me having both is the way forward, but i realise not everyone can be in that position.

If i had to pick one then it would have to be the Hawkeye as its far easier to live with on a daily basis, but i much prefer driving the classic - its puts such a smile on my face.

I'd say mine is pretty sweet

<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<

I must admit the one that gives me the smiles is a nice clean RB5! I'd love one running circa 400 brake with some AP brakes and all the suspension goodies.
