Default Cam belt change or kit ??

I had my cam belt changed in the 50000 mile service as per the hand book, but i have now been told I should have had the cam kit (tensioner and stuff). I had a specialist do the work which I am pleased with and I would guess if I needed the kit he would have said, Any comments on this, Car is a Spec D sti (2006)

The tensioner and guide wheels get replaced if they need it.
Presumably the specialist checked them while doing the belt.

what would cause these extra parts to wear (tensioner and guide wheels) If they need changing at 50000 miles wouldn't that be in the service guide and not just the belt

Tensioners and Idlers are normally added by Main Dealers and replaced whether needed or not .... seems your Specialist looked, checked, and decided against changing - which is to be highly commended.

Id of had the tensioner changed too just to be on the safe side and not worry about it with it being a 3k engine build if that fails.

the tensioners leak they are prone for it and if he didn't compress it correctly then it's knackered anyway.
subaru took great lengths to explain to dealers how it should be compressed otherwise it's had it.

Oh well the service has been done now and I hope all these checks where done. I do trust the company who did it, they only work with impreza's so they must now what there doing and if something needed doing I'm sure it would have been highlighted at the time.
I was just wondering really if you guys would have gone for all the extra cam parts (tentioners and stuff) regardless if they needed changing to be on the safe side. If so and your specialist told you that there was no need would you have still gone a head and have them fitted my car is only 4 years old but if it was a little older maybe I would have

I'm doing a cam belt change shortly and have bought all the extra bits to be on the safe side.
The tensioner will be fitted regardless, but if the guide wheels are OK then they'll get resold.
They were nowhere near those stealer prices though

i would defo do the tensioner anyway and as above only do the idlers if needed, after a while a reused tensioner will start to knock
