Default Fitting 6 speed fly wheel & clutch to a 52 WRX 5 speed box. Any pods required

I am going to fit a 6 speed clutch and flywheel into my 52 wrx wagon.

What modifications are required to my 5 speed box.

I believe you need to grind some of the bell housing.

If you have any pictures, that would be great.

Thx again for all your help.

there was a post on scoobynet a while ago with some pictures, but neede the webs inside the bellhousing cutting back, you might need the six speed starter motor as well, but unsure about that

The question is why??

the OEM STi clutch and flywheel transmit forces better........thereby increasing the risk of trashing the gearbox (again). Unless you are thinking of dropping a PPG gearset in and then it would be better to uprate the clutch.

Just curious

I'm running an AP organic clutch with an RCMS flywheel as a replacement for my bugeye WRX OEM setup at about 400 BHP without problems.

Is there a mix up somewhere as David at API can supply a Clutch and flywheel to fit your Newage 5 speed without hacking the housing to fit an STi unit.

In any case the weak point is the 5 speed gearbox as the OEM clutch can transmit enough grunt to lunch the box, usually 3rd gear

Hi Shaun,
I dont intend having the 5 speed box long, i just need the car on the road just now. So that is why the 6 speed clutch set up is better, so i can use it with a 6 speed set up, when i have the funds. Thx for letting me know about third gear, i will be careful.

I can do what you say Shaun, but in this instance Richard wanted a better than my 230 mm job and he is going 6 speed eventually and he wanted the larger clutch.

In fact we have been fitting the 6 speed APi version of the Exedy in a few 450 ish 2.5's and have had excellent results.

Above 450 / 450 we go AP Racing organic 240mm That - in their claim - is as good as a ceremetallic version for grip these days. Certainly, we have them taking excellent torque right up to 500 ft lbs even though their spec for torque is a miserable 370 or something similar.

Hi David,

The clutch / flywheel just arrived this morning, thx. Do you have a thread on how to fit this flywheel. Because my mechanic starts @ 07.00am, and i don't think you will be available at that time in the morning.
Thx for all your help.

Richard
