Default Quiet exhaust?

Currently, I have an OBX exhaust and it is too loud for my taste. I bought another car fitted with Apexi, but from what I read it is also pretty noisy.

I am looking for an exhaust that sounds like New Age STi if possible and is good for 400bhp. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Calling Powerwrx .... .. sorry m8 ..no offence
Depends how loud or in ur case quiet you want it.
I believe all ur major zorst manufacturers like H+S make the Scoobysport backbox that is middle, to Jap style 4 or 5" can handle that sort of power.
Then there's the Ninja 2 or mine TSL Group N ..these are loudish but not too loud

Steve

I guess "loudish" is too loud for me. I prefer it as quiet as possible without losing too much performance.

From what I read Revolution or Milltek are considered "quiet", aren't they?

Millteks are pretty quiet - should be able to give you a Db level soon as it's being tested for a track day.

YOU RANG!!

this was my TSL group N backbox (click for vid) but i was running a decat centre and deresonated pipe aswell

after that i got the STi Genome which to be honest i think for over all looks and sound (which isnt ott) the genome is the best,i took the genome off and replaced with a blitz nurspec which lasted a week before the Genome went back on....then after lots of uming and ahring i finally parted with the Genome and got myself the Afterburner Vortex which has a great sound to it but its far from quiet, now after a month of owning the vortex im finding myself wanting to change it again but im torn which way to go...i so miss the Genome

I'm in this dilema also.

Bought a 03 jdm sti, with a silly loud back box on it. When cruising at anything over about 50 you have to talk noticebly louder in the cab to hear the person next to you, and thats with standard pipe the whole way to the back box.

I have a prodrive one that came with the car, however the flanges don't quite line up, so need to cut an weld it.
Hoping its quieter though!

Also have full de-cat turbo back exhaust to go on after MOT, hoping it and the Prodrive back box won't be 2 loud.

Best thing to do is fit a resonated centre section and something like the Racebox BB.
I have the Racebox which i moved to from a Ninja 1 BB. I do NOT have a resonated centre ssection but it would be quiet if i did. For me i can now cruise at motorway speeds with no drone and can chat also. LOL But i still have the lovely burble and moreso at revs which is what i like.

I would go to exhaust uk located in Sheffield. They will build you a fully customised exhaust system to your requirements. Best of it is, if it is too loud, take it back and they will adjust until you are happy. And you get a 25 year warranty. They have been doing custom fits for years and I have used them on 3 separate cars. Great lads, even better work.

Is that a straight thru with a section in it like the Afterburner with Sports Silencer in it? I have the toally straight thru centre Afterburner with the TSL Group N Backbox and it does drone at 60-70 ..so if I fitted that it will take the drone out? Sorry to be dumb .. Had Prodrive BB, Ninja 1, Ninja 2,Afterburner Vortex and Racebox on previous and current scoobs and happy with this ..just the cabin drone is annoying!

Yes mate it has a silencer around it. I would expect if one were fitted that it would remove some drone as it will quieten down the noise. I like the Racebox as that is a lovely burble for me with no drone. Ninja 1 droned big time for me. I just got fed up with it, but used to love it! LOL.
I have still thought about going totally "stealth" and having a resonated centre section myself, but I do love the burble really. Especially on full blat!

I've replaced the Prodrive BB with the STI Genome on my 07 WRX (full de-cat) and its much louder. Plays a lovely tune though.

M@RKB do you still have the resonated section in ??
I have a full de cat and Prodrive bb, but with the resonated section still in, tbh I don't think it sounds that great and drones slightly (not much burble). I have been told that the resonated section does tone things down but can create drone

My old car, a 2006 STI, was running no cats and no resonator with a Racebox backbox. Quiet enough when you are at cruising or crawling speeds but gives a great sound when you blip the throttle. Couldn't recommend it enough if you are looking for a quiet performance exhaust.

I was running 360bhp/390LbFt with it.

I'll try to summarize:

1. Prodrive - nice and quiet - I guess OEM diameter (2.25") - so questionable performance?

2. HKS Silent - sounds OK on youtube.

3. Milltek - sounds OK on youtube. Occasional problems with build quality.

4. STi Genome, Racebox, etc. - a little bit on the louder side.

5. Revolution - didn't find video on youtube.

No resonated section on it, but not sure how much differance it makes because I changed it all at once. The de-res section is the cheapest one to buy anyway , so theres only one way to find out LOL.

Lovely top-quality exhaust. Here's a couple of photos of the one I had. Got it cheap from an official dealer who just put in on E-Bay to clear too!
