The fault only appears to have affected older PS3 consoles, rather than the more recent, ’slim’ versions.

Booolox turned mine on and it showed the date as 31/12/99 
mine an original 60gb from release day... best not of lost all my data, had just got to level 64 on MW2 lol

two of my ex-housemates had 360. one lifted his slightly to get skate 2 from under it.. instant red ring of death. the other nudged his slightly while opening his window... red ring of death. he now has a small tower of defunct xboxes next to his telly, which im sure will continue to grow. no wonder you can buy an elite now for £79.99, its clear to see why they outsell ps3!

Don't know if its relevent in any way but my PS3 slim 120gb had been suffering varying intermitent problems for around 3 weeks,complete system lock-up (online and offline),not loading games,not connecting online,no sound,and the xmb kept resetting 
.So much for them being more reliable.Not even 6 month old 
.Got fed up with it so I phoned Sony to complain and I get my replacement tommorrow 
.Hopefully this is an isolated unit problem and the replacement should sort it.

Yep 360 here, also the old 360 used to naf up. E74 every yr 4-7 weeks befor xmax well naffed up twice, the second time they sent me a brand new unit. But i bought the elite and all is fine, but if they **** up with error E74 or red rings then they will replace as often as needed for free.
2 mates at work had these here sony things, and say the 360 is more smoother and game play more reliable. I dont no just had the 360, maybe some here have had both?
