Default WTF!! Car Tax Cheap As Chips!!!

I've just had my tax renewal form through for my 2004 Impreza WRX.

I had been bracing myself for a 12 month tax hit of £310 after what i read on some website about the new tax bands.

In my renewal, for 12 months tax, its only £210???

I have no idea why but its a lovely suprise!!

Any thoughts?

is this right for a Blob WRX?

I thought it changed in 2009? That could be my mistake.

The government backtracked on the top band when it went up to £400 on cars registered before a particular year (2006IIRC)

My Golf went from £400 to £210, was a pleasant suprise

It'll probably go back up again sooner or later though.

Really. i didnt know that either!

So is it in limbo at the minute with no set date to hike up again?

Is an STI £310 approx now then until it changes?

Oops quick edit: I meant band K (which used to be the top band in 2006). The top band now is band M (still £400odd)

It's really confusing, as my 2006 Golf puts out 257 g/km of CO2 yet its in band K (used to be £200ish, then went to £400, then went back down and is now currently £215). Yet the same car registered 12month later thats puts out the same CO2 is in band M (£405).

I think there was a public outcry that people who bought cars before 2006 would be unaware of the tax doubling overnight, as such it was seen as unfair. There must have been some legal thing going on to get the government to backtrack so quickly.

The 2006 bit is for those registered after March 26th 2006 IIRC. Lucky for me mine was registered in March 2006 'before' the 26th

It got put back a year so it comes into effect April 1st 2010. Good job my tax runs out March 31st

Mine should be £210 this year, MY06 Hawkeye WRX STI
