Hawkeye saloon - What is this in the boot?
I recently got a hawkeye GB270 saloon and have found this attached to the roof of the boot. What is it for? (the black module with the black and red wires)

I'm not 100% but I think its the rear window amplifier for your Radio antena? The rear window heating element acts as the aerial.
Use to have a Hawkeye Wrx 06.

i re-located mine and fitted a pair of 6x9's in there. it was a very tight fit but after a bit of adjustment they went in.
made a huge difference, but did upgrade all the other speakers as well.

you cant even tell they are fitted if you look in through the back window.
i just used a couple of washers on the bolts so they dont move at all and lined the underside of the shelf with sound-deadening to stop any vibrations.
just use a bolt and lock nut when mounting, rather than relying on the crappy fixings you get with the speakers.
it was a pig to do (u have to take the rear seats out to fit them, but i was fittin my rear strutt bar so i did it at the same time) and idealy you will need another pair of hands but it is so worth it.

no.
didnt want to advertise the fact i have rear speakers fitted. the parcel shelf cover just clips in and out so it looks as if nothing is there. i just mounted them under the shelf as they dont just drop into the holes,( which is why the need for nuts and bolts.) unless you are handy with an electric saw.
a bugger to fit but worth the effort.

i had to mount the speakers under the metal shelf so the cloth bit should never hit the speaker. i think i had about 1cm clearance due to the edging around the rim of the speaker and the spacers to keep the speaker level. it is the only way you will get 6x9'2 to fit unless you want to cut the metal shelving so you can drop the speakers in from the top as the holes already there are nowhere near big enough to mount them.

I had mine fitted by a specialist but I watched him do it. He made a pilot hole from inside the boot through the shelf then with the speaker template cut out the hole fitted speaker job done. they look about 4" made by Focal I think, very expensive but bloody good. But I did upgrade my head unit at the same time. I do have a pic fitted if you want.
