POPS and BANGS.

POPS and BANGS.
What is it that makes some exhausts pop and bang and others don't. Is due to excess fuel being feed into a hot exhaust? and is this bad for the car and how is it achieved?
Cheers.

all i can say is so far you've answered your own question in the first part of your questions. but as to to the bad for your car, ive no idea. it can be acheived with apping fuel on overrun

[QUOTE=darms;9188498]One way is to have a full decat and a vta dump valve [/QUOTE
my old hks system used to pop like mad now on to a 3" revolution system and it never pops at all? still running same decat and standard ecu? fueling was spot on when rolling roaded with both systems!

I wouldn't condone this at all RA Dunk!!
Just saying, one side effect that's all.
I find in the Classic, third gear downhill at high revs or a slow gear change causes a small amount of popping.

Nope the cheapo way to do it is get it mapped to over fuel on the overrun, but you will have no control over this, once its on its on (unless things have changed and it can now be turned off??) you might like the sound to start with but will eventually get fed up of it, I know a few people who have went back after a remap to get it turned off

The pops and bangs are unburned fuel exploding in the exhaust system.
This can be achieved by over fuelling the car on the overrun and providing the exhaust is hot the fuel will ignite in the exhaust giving you pops and bangs.
Anti lag has the same effect but with that you can switch it off.
To get pops and bangs you are using more fuel than necessary and neat fuel is passing through your engine and out in to the exhaust system and long term this cannot be good for the health of your engine.
Remember that rally cars can get a new engine for every event and even in Group N a rebuild once a season is very common.
You can increase the probability of pops and bangs by drilling a couple of small holes in the top of your downpipe which allows air and hence oxygen in to your exhaust system after the turbo. Not recommended but if you want pops and bangs it certainly helps.

My dads got a uk classic decatted same as mine. He's got an after burner back box and I have a ninja 2, that's the only difference the rest of the exhaust on both cars are Hayward and Scott but his pops and bangs but he has an updated fuel pump so this could be the reason
