Tax Query
I Have a quick query in regards to the tax paid on my Subaru Impreza WRX.
The car itself is a 1998 WRX, Imported not so many years ago.
Now the issue I seem to have is the extortionate tax that I have just paid on the car;
£405.00 For a years tax.
Now please correct me if I'm wrong, but Wasn't the new tax system that was put in place for motor vehicles over the year of 2001?
Thus meaning I should be exempt?
I've just rang a couple of other Subaru Owners an they seem to be paying £195 area ( Forgotten the excact Figuire.)
I would love some input on how to go about this, If I have been given the wrong tax band that is!
Cheers
Grix

Hello mate.
I'm in the same boat. Unfortunately if the vehicle was imported after that time you're in for it as well.
The only way some people have got around it is when the car is sva'd emissions test goes down as unavailiable and then the tax is reverted to the cheaper amount. My dad and i have exactly the same cars. His was imported in 09, mine in 07. I pay £400 plus, he pays 195.
Doesn't look like there is anyway around it. Except for maybe exporting and then importing your car.
If you find out any more i'm dying to know how to get round it. I went to the dvla office in Wimbledon and all they could say was to write to your local mp.

Your definatly in the wrong tax band!
Like you have said that cars over 2001 pay different amonts of tax, dependent on the emissions the car produces.
Have you tried getting in contact with the DVLA about it?
Where did you tax the car?
