Default Stick with classic wagon or go for a bugeye

In the next few months i will be looking to sell a house i own, hopefully through the sale i hope to have about 5k spare for a bugeye or do up my current classic wagon.

It's a red uk wagon with 113k, here's a list of the following i need and would like to do to it:

Respray
Brakes all round (would be looking for a larger size disc and caliper)
Door and window seals (perishing)
Fog lights
Wheels and tyres ( revolution milenniums wrapped in yoko parada spec 2)
Suspension (upgrade on original and slightly lower)
Full exhaust system
New TMIC or FMIC (current one has seen better days)
Full service
Remap
Interior (certain parts are a bit worn)

What sort of price would i be looking at for getting the above done, the wheels and tyres come in at £1100. Suspension looking at springs and shocks rather than coilovers and what bhp gain could i expect to see from a good exhaust system and a remap.

So the other option is to use the money to get something a bit newer, have been looking at bugeye's. Not everyones cup of tea but in the right colour with the right headlights i think they look good.

Am i right in thinking that the WRX versions are 215bhp and the STI versions are around 250bhp+?, would be looking for the STI if this is the case.

Is there much difference in handling characteristics due to the extra weight in the bug as i like the ride and feel of the classics?

Is there much difference in terms of servicing costs?

Do the bugs have stronger engines?

What is the road tax on a bug as i guess they fall into the higher tax banding.

Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated.

Can pick up a bug sti for very little now and for about £1000 in mods will get to 330bhp ish. Would be a much better purchase IMO as the engine and gearbox are much stronger let alone better suspension, brakes and comfort.

Cheers for the advice, will have a good look into getting a bug. i do prefer the interior was more worried that the extra weight would effect the handling compared to the classic.
