Default Best Car battery to go for?

My car has surviived the bitter weather, but the battery has felt the brink of life. Sometime when cranking the car at temps at around -7 the car alarm beeps to indicate a low battery charge, however the battery is serviceable but clearly still isnt up to the job!

So what is the best battery to go for?

I usually go to my local store 'Trade Partco autoparts' who are very helpful and reasonable in price, and though £55 for high capacity seemed reasonalble, but what do I know?

hmm this sounds like youve either got a dying battery (could just require the cells topping up if its serviceable) or you have a drain somewhere.. ie something earthing. My last scoob was left in the garage for 3 weeks whilst i went on holiday, I came back and it fired up striaght away.

I was going to go for a red top, but was advised to go for the varta as in the link above, The ultima red top was very heavy might be better but couldn't justify the 200% extra cost over the varta.

Optima redtop on my 2003 WRX, had it checked today and it's had it, fitted 10.01.09 so under warranty, can't contact them until Tuesday to see what they say. Whatever goes on next will be battery number 4 since coming out of the factory.

That's one hell of a discount from £89.99, sure that's right?

I bought a £90 battery for a mondeo only last month for £44 with the trade card, I'm sure the one I bought for my scoob 3 years back was only £40.

I have found Varta blue top batteries to be superb, not much more than a budget one.
