Got to work, parked in the garage (running fine), 15 mins later, fire alarm going off and smoke pouring from the garage.
Electric door so stood back and let her open up... Fire brigade were spot on though and arrived very quick.
As it was in the garage though it's gone down as 'building fire' !!

looking at those pics and the burn / heat pattern, I'd say that started with either the cooling fan or AC fan, which ever is on the right (not sure on blobs).

My one "almost" caught fire in that same spot last year, wiring from the fans was touching the exhaust manifold, luckily for me a spotted it in time, but it was in that very place where this one looks to have started!

Could be right there after all the rain we had recently. She did stop then and I had her recovered by the RAC to a specialist who took the motor apart and checked all the connections but that was a month or more ago... still could have taken a while.
Deffo looks like the bundle of wires behind the headlight.
Petrol in the coolant indeed! Got to laugh otherwise you'd just sob!

Mini update - The recovery truck arrived and i've just been stunned by the fact that he not only asked if it would run but proceeded to attach the half melted battery and fire it up. First turn of the key as well.
Still sounds fine but the cost of the bodywork will see her written off. huge shame
