Diy intercooler y piece
Been meaning to do this for a while as ive read the standard pipe is quite restrictive and since im not supposed to spend any money on my car at the moment this is good to keep me buisy without spending. So basicaly ive just removed my intercooler off my car and tommrow an going to make a start on a nice bigger bore ali pipe to replace the plastic one. Here is a pic of how it is now, will get some more pics up tommrow of my progress for anyone thats interested in seeing. Cheers, rich.

Incidentally, I get the intent to replace the gash moulded pipe without spending any dosh, and if you're "making something just because you can", don't let anyone rain on your parade.
That said, however, if you simply want to get shot of the standard pipe, you're going to find it very difficult to fabricate anything better than the variety of full silicone aftermarket replacements, or the STi cast/silicone one - even though getting your hands on one would involve some financial outlay.

I understand that mate, im realy just doing it because i can, and because it wont cost me anything. Plus i like makeing my own bits, Just a bit differant from ones that you can go out and buy.

Right guys made a start on this today, and as always my mind got ticking and the whole thing took a dramatic turn from just a y piece 
. Now weather it will be any better than the standard or even worse 
( i hope not ) but the thought is there 
excuse the state its in at the moment, its not an easy task and im doing it piece by piece while trying to fit in all my other work i have to do for the day. Had to bring it home tho to check its goin in the right direction and is all gunna fit ok, so far its all lineing up will and not catching anything. Im takeing my time with it and doing alot of fileing, and polishing to keep it all smooth inside. Will crack on with it again tommrow and do a bit more. Too be honest, at one point today i got to the point where i was thinking i wish id never started it 
but no turning back now, the end result should be good. Here is a few pics.

I plan to do that one day mate, just at the moment im haveing to save my money for a deposit for a house at the end of the year so for now im just haveing to play.
Its takeing time but i will get there

well im thinking in theroy is should be better, slightly bigger bore, smoother inside and the third pipe ? i could be totaly wrong and wasteing my time tho but hey its keeping me buisy.

Ok so got a bit further with this today, hopeing to get it finished tommrow. Lets just say its been a bit tricky at times. Just got to fabricate a 90 degree bend at the end to join my turbo and going to maybe just make the intercooler look a bit more posh then it will be time to get it back on. Even tho you wont be able too see it when its on im also going to smooth the whole thing off a bit make it look a bit nicer. All 3 pipes are now all into one and has been well filed, sanded and polished as inside to try keep a smooth finish, very tricky job , few little lumps and bumps inside but very little, alot less than in the standard pipe anyway. quite looking forward to fitting it now. Will post some more pics up tommrow when hopefuly it will be complete.

intresting, as someone has said, dont let anyone get you down for having a go. the fact that it has been so fiddly/awkward to do is probably the reason that it is not mass produced this way anyway. my guess is logically it should work better, fingers crossed for you, good luck.

Cheers guys. To be honest i dont know how i will tell if its any better or not i guess the only way to tell would of maybe been on the rollers but im not sure what power it was running with the original setup on. Im hopeing maybe i will just feel a bit of a differance, weather it be better or worse ( i hope not tho ) alot of work gone to waste if it is, but hey was a risk i chose to take , the things i do for a bit of fun . Hopefully in a few mths when ive got sum pennys together for my house then i will be takeing it off anyway to go down the fmic route will be another build for me too do

Too be honest with you mate the welds arnt as neat as id liked them too be, simply because ive had to put so many bits and pieces into it, hence whey ive cleaned most of the welds off. I enjoy doing stuff where i can leave the welds on and polish them up, i think they look nice then. Cheers tho chaps, a bit more work tommrow and it should look better again.

That would be interesting mate, would be nice to know if its any better or not. Just wish it could be seen under the bonnet, seems a shame to have it hideing away, ( or it will be anyway when its finished and looking nice ) Im hopeing to get my car on the rollers sometime this year so atleast i can get a power figure.
