winter tyre choice
I am considering getting a winter set of tyres for my 2004 impreza, they have the 225 standard wheels on, i live in a small village in the cotswolds in the bottom of a valley and the only way out is up, not easy at the moment, although doing much better than most of the others, - so can any one recommend anything to help me out then?
Thanks
Thanks

I have Michelin Alpine tyres for the bad weather, good amount of grip and speed rated Z I think...can't comment on the price as I don't pay for them
Makes a big difference in the cold weather and has allowed me to drive on most inclines on compacted snow.

I've been using winter tyres since 2000, so have been through a few sets over the years!
I currently have Pirelli Sottozero winter tyres and have to say I'm extremely impressed with them. Fitted to 17" rims on 08 STI with 235 profile and have to say they perform as well as the 215 dunlop winter sports I had on the 03 STI which was a big surprise given the width difference, although I suspect the 08 STI should take some of the credit!
I've also tried Michelin Pilot in 225 profile on the 03 STI and can't say I was overly impressed with them, although I believe the newer versions are a significant improvement.
All of the above tyres were in Z rating on 17" rims which is not ideal for snow but great for general winter use! The only other winter tyres I've tried were T rated Vredsteins (can't remember the type name) with 205 profile on 16" rims on my RB5. They were really amazing in the snow, but speed restricted!
Overall the Sottozero's get my vote and will certainly be sticking to them next year!
