How to clean engine bay?

Are there any special products you can buy to remove dirt and grime from the engine bay?

I dont fancy letting rip on it with the lance at the local jet wash incase I get stuck there!!

thats an excellent write up Tony. I just use the following (although not from this shop)

I also use metal polish and my Aldi version of a Dremel (about £40 cheaper) Took me about 3 hours and i went through two of the little brass wire brush tools for my Dremel-a-like, I didnt use any water, jetwash etc just lots of microfibre clothes to use the products above. For some reason the vinyl cleaner shifts pretty much anything, turned out like this:
