Default Induction kits.

What are peoples thoughts on Induction kits. Are they good or bad, and if the answer is good then whats the best 1 to get.

A backward step on most standard-ish setups. IMHO.

Good for nothing.

Bad for your MAF, and, therefore your engine!

Don't do it!

Not really a good step on a new age STI as the standard air intake system is very very good so it probably is a backwards step on your car (all that lovely hot air going into your engine, reduced power here we go!) plus its recommended that if you have a CAIK fitted that your car is mapped for it (these ones are the ones you have in the wing really) and if you have a larger diameter pipe then that can naff up the maf readings as your getting more air into the engine (not a nice thing for your air/fuel ratio )

The only improvement is the noise.

There was a test somewhere that showed they gave a reduction in power on a lighly modded Scoob. There is also a slight risk of damage.

I wouldn't bother.

Thanks guys. 1 of my friends has a wing mounted APS induction kit on his new age STI and he was telling me that they dont do any harm to the MAF. Is this true.

The new age mafs are better than the MY99/00 cars (no versions just model years as the mafs were all the same on the turbo'd models) BUT if the pipework has been replaced with a larger diameter pipe then it will require remapping, and the standard air intake system is very good anyway.

I have the APS wing mounted CAI on my 02 STi, and had it mapped by Andy Forrest right away - love the noise.

No adverse effects etc - but I would receommend having the car mapped if you do fit one, mine threw up a EML on the way through to AndyF (sorry can't recall the code)

Noise is great - especially spool-up, sook sook chatter chatter pttchh

Well i was not planning on getting it remapped as it has a ppp on it already. I just wanted that nice induction noise, but if its going to make the car play up and is not good for it then i think i might just leave it for now. Thanks for all the replys guys.

I wouldn't do it.

- Can affect the fueling a lot (depending on make) and make it run lean (or rich).
- It will be sucking on hot air so the engine will be fundamentally running different.
- It is unlikely to actually create any more power

You will get a noise - great if you like it but I would bet that your car will run worse without mapping. Not worth the hassle and expense for the noise.

Surely Bob mapped your Spec C as well Tx?

If so then he's gaining the small advantage a CAI can offer without the hazzards...

LOL @ SS...

^^ Yep. He recommended RCM exhaust, induction kit, uprated fuel pump, uprated actuator, 3 port boost solenoid ... Bob installed the i kit on the day just before map.

TX.

My builder recommended a new roof, a new drainage system, new windows and doors and a new timber frame ...... he installed it all and then re-programmed my heating control for me.

I am sure Bob doesnt really believe that an induction kit on a relatively standard car is a worthwhile mod.

^Cool, less heat soak but too much lag IMHO.

Very good ...... he did put too much lag in my loft

He changed the water in the Boiler, but he didn't carry out the builders **** procedure - walk around the boiler twice while singing "Water, Water, Everywhere"

I'm half expecting a full blown seizure in the pipes and more heatsoak ... maybe I should fit a KockLink to my programmer?

^ A VTA dump valve on your boiler for water pressure would be good via an external overflow. Zero Sports Racing Thermostat too
