Default Could someone help me please....

Could someone with a blob eye around the 2003 year get me the details of their alternator please?

Just I broke my original (stupidly) and got a 2nd hand one from Grade-A subaru. But, I'm sure it is incorrect, as there are two versions of the 3 pin one. As the engine check light won't go out, and I think it is due to having the incorrect alternator on.....

One of them has only 2 Live Pins (and a dummy) and the other version needs all 3 pins. I'm not sure which mine is due to not having any details on.

If someone could get me their details that would be great!
It may look something like:
3700-AA380
23700-AA420
23700-AA450
23700-AA540
A2TB3091
A2TB5391
A2TB6991
A2TG0391

Cheers

Brilliant, thanks a lot!

That's the one which uses all 3 pins! I will check mine at work (don't have a torch here), and hopefully it won't match yours, which means I have the wrong one so will be a simple fix.

Thanks again!

No, doubt it's the real thing, but I don't mind to be honest. As most stuff we put on our cars, it isn't genuine, but normally better than OEM anyway.

Yeah I will do mate.

I hope the alternator which is on my car now is different to yours, as then I'm 99% sure that's my problem. Then will order a new one with the same marking as yours, and it should solve the problem.........hopefully.

Its also a very complex alternator, you cannot put a classic one on a new age STI, you will just cook the battery/cause issues as these ones have a computer chip in there that does all this on/off charging stuff, hence why its that price so not sure what you have bought Chris but I doubt it will work or if it does it could cause you problems

Hi,
Sorry for the late reply, I've been on nights this week so I haven't been functioning properly

The details on my alternator are:
23700AA390
A2TB299
8Y09

Which means it has the dummy pin on, so only uses 2 out of the 3 pins on the plug. That means it's the wrong one I got sent from Grade-A Subaru, but as I've had it over a month they will not replace it..

I haven't bought one yet. Thanks Rob for the input! I was a bit worried about the ebay one to be honest, as the originals are so expensive from the dealers. But I suppose if yours has lasted a year, that would do me as I could go through 9 of them over 9 years for the price of a OEM one

Thanks

90A compared to 75 I believe, also think this applies to the AA420 alternator, was that your original one?

Yeah I think it was the AA420. I stupidly didn't check it before I binned it, as I received the once from Grade-A and expected it to be right.

The one on ebay is only 80A

Looks like a trip to the dealers then mate .
i will have to hope mine does another year of constant short journeys and early morning cold starts, followed by 2/3 days with the alarm set.

Well the ebay special is fitted. Turned the ignition on and off about 5 times, the engine check light went away by itself, and all seems good

Hope it lasts....

I took my alternator from my classic to a local specialist. They did a complete refurb for £92 with the Vat and stuck a years warranty on it. Was as good as new...

I don't know if mine would have been refurb-able anyway, as I took it apart, then when I was rebuilding it I snapped the two brushes inside (like a spaz).
