What to get for £10k?
Hi all,
So, daughter arrives over a year ago, I get all daddyfied and sensible and sell the MY99 300bhp classic to leave the daily driver Diesel Focus Estate as only car .
A year on, fast/fun car itch is barely scratchable now and the wife has given permission for plaything , but what to get?
I'll have give or take £10k (less preferably but may go up for right car)
My thoughts:
Blobs:
1) 2003/04/05 Sti Type UK PPP or TSL333 or something
2) 2003 Sti Type JDM (maybe import my own)
3) 2003 STi Type JDM Spec C limited (my fave )
4) 2004 STi Type UK WR1 with high miles
Others:
1) 2001 M3
2) 2003 S4
3) Modern hatch - Focus ST/Astra or Corsa VXR/Clio 197 or Megane 230 F1/Golf GTi
Help!!!

I have a 2005 STI Type UK, I had the same list of scoobs consider will I was choicing a car in late 08 early 09 and 05 UK was my choice due to a) Insurence is cheaper b) wider track, c) better DCCD, d) there plenty of them out there putting out over the 310bhp that the JDM's come standard with, e) they retain the Scooby Burble.

Forester STI - suits you and suits the nipper.
It would certainly be on my shopping list with 10K to spend and I've got a daughter myself.

I doubt you will pick any spec c up for 10k, maybe 12k, otherwise try a standard JDM twin scroll car it will be better for your daughter too (less noisy and harsh )

i would avoid anything french to start with and think you should have the subaru you want seen as you have done without for so long! if you need to take your daughter anywhere you first off have a wife and a focus diesel lol and second if you do take your daughter in the scoob im sure as a grown man with a kid you are capable of driving sensibly!

04 jdm, has the better interior spec like the 05 uk sti and the dccd/wider track that the 04 uk blob dosent have, plus the jdm is a better spec'd car. Ive had both uk blob and jdm hawkeye. Jdm gets my vote.
u should if u can find 1 pay around 10-12k depending on condition etc and I found insurance no different?

Good stuff so far, still got my head and heart on jdm sti. Will still have the focus for day to day and then scooby to go play in. Think if i import I can get spec c under 10k but I have seen a couple for around that here and buying in jan I guess I'll get a better deal!
to be honest I'll be striving for 400bhp too as it's the next obvious landmark for me and I guess the jdm is best for that too!

Not a hope on that either, the price you pay at auction wont include the 10% export tax, neither will it include shipping or insurance, then import tax when it gets here, registration, euro4, esva etc, your looking at 12-13k still, especially with the way the yen is against the pound.

As you state its a plaything then surely a classic would be more fun, there's a mica blue 99 in for sale at the moment for £2.5k
Spend a few quid on brakes and a couple of mods and it's smiles all the way.
If its not a plaything at all and you were just saying that then m3 or a4 FTW

I find it odd that alot of replys suggest I don't get a scooby, on scoobynet!
Peanuts - It is deffo a play thing (i.e. I don't need to get one but I am going to!!) but I will be taking the family out on high days and holidays and I have got a bit safety concious now I've got a little girl and although there are no official NCAP tests, the american safety test results are far better for the newage than classics and in 2001 one test scheme named the Newage Impreza 'America's Safest car' so that is why I want a blob (prefer it to bug too). If not for this I would probably still have my MY99 classic or would be shopping for a RB5 WRSport/P1/STi Version 6!!!
Tony Burns - I have definately seen a couple of 2003 Spec C's (one a limited) around for not much over 10K. One was on for offers over £10k before being traded not long ago (https://www.scoobynet.com/private-sa...my-spec-c.html) which you commented on the price of. I do think with the safety thing again I'll be more than happy with a 2004 JDM STi (GL?) with all the airbags and bells and whistles and wider track and better DCCD!!
Thanks for the replies, I think all my options are now down to one!!
Standard 2004 JDM Sti
Now where to look to buy?
I've been looking at importing using Japaneseusedcars.com but might go to Daitoku who are fairly close to me and have a good reputation, I guess they'll source me a car if I ask!
Thanks again

That'd be just the ticket actually (I suspect £10750 would clinch it) but as I said at the beginning of the thread, I'll be ready in Jan so guess it'll be gone! Ta for posting it up, annoyed I'm not ready yet, am near Carlisle this w/e too, bummer!
