Red face Warning - Sharp Practise!

Just been on the Churchill website to get a quote.

Thought I would look at their 'assumptions' hidden away (most people wouldn't look at these) and what do I find?

This statement:-

"You accept this car insurance policy on an automatic renewal basis and agree to us automatically renewing your policy each year using the payment details given when you purchased the policy unless you tell us not to".

I find that very sneaky - BE WARNED!

Its the same with most types of insurance now days ie house and contents and so on, they normally tell you about 4 weeks before renewal date.

this a pain for those who shop around annually, would prefer for this option to be Opt-In.

every insurance I've had does this. They give you ample warning in advance too. Just be aware that the renewal quotes are generally overpriced.

Am pretty sure that you also get a 14 day cooling period so if you miss the reminders you can cancel it after the renewal. Might be an idea to check for that too if you are worried at all.

The cheeky ones don't give you the online discount in your renewal so you have to cancel it and then get a new quote online to get the discount again. Then they ask you for your proof of NCB some you can phone and ask them to look at their old records but some refuse and insist you post them your renewal with the proof. They just want to make it hard work for you and try to rip you off in the process.

There is a way around this scam - use someone elses Credit Card! Then, they need to get the owner of that Credit Cards permission to debit again, nice one!

They don't like it - they keep sending forms for the Credit Card owner to fill in giving them authority to debit at will ...... yeah, like anyone would do that!
