I've heard lots of praise for the green filters.
I intend to swap my standard filter for an STi one when my car next goes for service (because I'm a ***** for STi bits! )
Just out on interest, has anyone used the Cosworth filters?

I went for a K&N panel filter seems fine, but I was told not to put to much oil on it after cleaning as it could bugger the maf . So with this in mind if I was going to mod another scoob I would probably go with the Green Cotton

Got a K&N panel in the scoob and a green cotton in the FR Tdi. To be honest quality wise I don't think there is much between them. Both need to be oiled, so can both bugger the MAF. Just go easy on the oil.......

I have just installed a Green Cotton Panel filter, and in standard form there is no noticeable (to me anyway) Performance increase. The only thing I have noticed is a slight increase in turbo whine. Also I just installed mine straight out of the box, obviously after modifying the fit by cutting away the rubber bits. I'm assuming this thing comes oiled out of the box, as it felt very lightly oiled ?

I've just replaced an STi filter with a Green one. Big difference! Its been said on here that the STi panel filter is pretty much the worst you can get, even the standard Subaru item is better. Turbo spools better now and is definitely more audible.
Have a look at Scoobyparts. They've got an offer on Greens and mine came the next day.

Panel filters are the best mean IMHO But unlike me who has a FMIC I can no longer use the box so gone for a K&N Typoon that sits in the wing to get the cold airflow and not the engine heat!
Just make sure you get the maff scaled if you change the filter!

Yes the Scoobynet book of myth and legend passed on from one uninformed poster to the next IMHO. Greens are so lightly oiled it's ridiculous to suggest this would compromise the Maf, as would it be to suggest a need to rescale the the maf from a change from OEM panel to K&N panel or other.

Not sure if the oil thing is a myth or not but when I was having my car mapped at SRR by Jolly Green Monster both Simon and Charlie both screwed there faces up when I told them I had a freshly oiled K&N filter installed
As for performance gains it must be very small, but if your going to mod then it must be a step in the right direction with higher air flow available

I've had a Green Filter for a couple of years now - cleaned and oiled once a year (i only do low mileage) and haven't had any problems at all.
You probably won't notice any gains power wise (unless you're a sucker for the placebo effect) but you will hear a better sound.

As '53 says many of the theories/"facts" expounded on this forum are complete bullsh*t, but have been repeated without question so many times that people believe, and repeat them because they mean well and don't know better (although they still tend to take it personally when the errors get pointed out).
Some are based on fact, but become distorted via a process of chinese whispers when being repeated, while some start from something that might have been true on one specific car, on one specific day, but doesn't work as a "rule" or sweeping generalisation.
K&N and Green are fine, the oil doesn't shed into the induction tract (although it's worth giving a new one a good wipe down when it comes out of the packet, just to get rid of any excess). Some of the other wet filters, in particular the ones covered in a thicker "mucus", are worth avoiding.
