According to the latest copy of Motortrader (a trade magazine), IM's Subaru sales in the UK are down 45.56% in January and February this year compared to the same period last year.
2001 Sales (Jan & Feb) 1385
2002 Sales (Jan & Feb) 754
Personally I think it serves IM right for keeping UK prices artificially high.

Subaru Impreza WRX 2.0 4 door saloon, on-the-road prices:
Official list price £21495;
Import price £17497;
Saving £3998.
I wonder why IM's sales might be down?
Anyone know whether this gap is wider on the new shape car than it was on the old? Or is it really just that the new CO2-based company car tax system means that the fleet buyers aren't giving everybody Imprezas any more?
Andy.

I think that retail sales are down in most every trade this year.
Due, mostly, to the september 11th atrocity....... and the ongoing conflict in Afghanistan.
When the gulf war was on..... trade down....
When the falklands "war" was on...... trade down....

In that case, I really don't feel bad about getting IM to respray my car under warranty for stone chip damage
I also won't feel at all bad about getting my STI from mainland Europe, or even Japan...

Wonder if the Fugly issue really is biting now as the guys who bought the original fugly version were scooby fans through and through, now those have replaced the cars the general bod in the street is basing their purchase more on the asthetics?
Just a theory? dont shoot me

This probably explains why IM are tightening up on warranty claims then, see my thread in Drivetrain:

Before the p1 I had a company owned my00 5 door and the salesperson at the uk dealership told me that they sold more private cars than company cars. They were also the 'business centre' dealer!
So I recon, based upon this comment, cO ratings have very little to do with it!
The my01 is a good car but is equally a ferkin ugly one. Get that sorted and they will get the sales sorted. Mine too!

I think you might be partially right John
I suspect that the (wrx) cars now lack of performance, and increased insurance grouping will also be factors, along with the 'boy racer' image that now gets tagged to Imprezas.
As the figures are for Subaru as a whole, it probably reflects how badly the Justy needs replaced.

Perhaps this explains the phone call from my dealer trying to sell me a new impreza. Somehow I ended up with being informed when they have a Prodrive STi 7 in for me to test drive
Tim Taylor, IIRC you said you were starting at osbornes in colchester and spoke to me friday, for reference, you don't have to try and sell me the STi 7 at all. It's just whether or not my wallet can take it

Anyone (Theo) got access to a similar trade magazine in Belgium/ Holland for the same period, be interesting to see the figures.
Might go something like:
2001 Sales (Jan & Feb) 754
2002 Sales (Jan & Feb) 1385

IM claim they are trying to restrict supply to help recover residual values of UK sourced cars
Apparently there are no WRX's in the UK. Thats because they are all in Belgium or Holland
UK Dealers don't like it one bit. But its a bit of a cleft stick. If they bring down the price of the WRX it will affect the values of those who already own one, and I for one would not be happy about that

Matthew: I was being sarcastic about the fleet companies providing Imprezas A car like this must be a fleet manager's nightmare - hugely expensive to run and insure, and I can't think of anything this side of a white van more likely to be abused, than a company Scooby
Robertio: Judging by my dealer's glee when they finally shifted their Justy, and no longer had to upset their customers that brought their proper cars in for service, I doubt Justy sales have ever been that great
Yorkie: why would you care if WRX prices drop? Unless you're planning to sell yours and buy something that hasn't dropped similarly, you don't lose anything and might end up saving. I'd be very happy for WRX prices to crash - although I have a MY00 to sell, my next car will probably be an STI. From Europe
Andy.
