Default buying advice please

hi all,

I have 4 grand to buy an impreza.I had a 95 wrx turbo before which blew the gearbox.

I am after some advice as to which model to buy or what i can get for the money. An sti would be nice but i am guessing for the cash i have got it will be another wrx turbo.

I saw a catalunya special on autotrader for 3800 which i am considering having a look at but if any of you are selling a good motor for similar cash then let me know.Black preferably bt i will consider any colour.Thought it was best to ask on here before i just buy any old car off autotrader.
Thanks
Ben

£4K will get you an STI (from a private seller) , my 98 Type R was only £4500

whats the real differences between an sti and a normal wrx turbo?
There are loads of wrx's and only a few stis in my price range.
is the sti that much better?
