Major Pre-Midlife Crisis
I've got a real problem, I'm lucky enough to have twos scoobys but I am on the verge (this side of never according to my wife) of chopping in one of them for a corvette.
I drove serveral hundred miles in one last year, a normal C6 with 430 horsepower from a 6.2l LS3 V8. I absoluteley loved it. I have always assumed that I would at some point move from Scoobies to a Porsche. Keep a Scooby as a practical family car, and have a 911 for me. But more and more lateley I keep thinking about how daft, silly, load, fun, just hillarious the corvette mad me feel.
I really want one!
Help me out people, what should I do?

If you really want a Corvette like has already been mentioned get a Monaro, I have a mate with a VXR8 putting out 531bhp at the flywheel and what a beast it is.
Why buy a car with plastic panels (I assume) when you could buy a car with the same engine as the later Corvettes but with better build quality.
Or just go for the 911 and own a real motoring icon and you can listen to a boxer engine albeit the flat 6 boxer engine.

I think you're mistaking the Z06 for some of the earlier Corvette incarnations which probably well deserverd the "yank tank" moniker.
I don't believe the Z06 has any problems with corners.

the vet is nice and i agree is fast, but there is no way your telling me a vet will go round a corner like a manaro/vxr8 without faceing the way it came?? i never driven the vet but from what i seen /read about em... you really think? (genuinlly asking not taking the pi55)

I absolutely do think
The Z06 has an excellent handling reputation.
The ZR1 (essentially a factory-tweaked ultimate Z06) is currently trading fastest production car lap records at the ring with the GTR ~ see HERE
And they are doing rather well in racing too. See the rather superb but ultimately "overly testosteroned" finish to the Laguna Seca GT2 event OVER HERE. 7litre vette vs 997GT2. (and if you are interested - magnusson is more to blame for the incident IMHO )

Wish I was looking for a Z06, the C6 has the 6.2l lump with 425bhp, the Z06 has a 7 litre lump homologated from the GT race car at 500bhp. Have to say having driven a C6 (unlike some people who have posted) It is both light weight and nimble. It is not as sophisticated as a Porsche, it is more politically incorrect than a Monaro/VXR8, and makes me hum the Smokey and the Bandit theme (and the Gumball, and the cannonball run, and convoy theme). It may not be the greatest car in the world but it speaks to my inner ten year old in a big way. Also the corvette would really annoy all of my mate's wives who think I am already setting a bad example for men with kids.
