92-96 imprezas have 4 pin ecus the U8 is a 240ps ecu in 92-94 wrxs, not remappable but can have a chip placed in it where there is a row of solder or can use the ESL remappable daughter board

You want a Z4 ecu from the 260ps model or an ESL board

I wouldn't personally bother with a z4 ecu as although the map is better the amount of extra power is insignificant (mine actually went down from 251bhp to 244bhp but the actually drive was a lot smoother).

There is the 6K ecu which allegedley is better but when i put one in my car found the MAP sensor came up as a fault but i do know a few people who run them without problems which is a bit odd.

I would wait leave the car as it is put a few quid aside every month for 6 months or so then see what you ECU you can afford.

If ,however, you do want a chipset speak to Scott T at PolarPerformance plenty of people on here have used them to varying degrees of success but they aren't as good as a bespoke map.
