2.5 WRX disappointing. Does PPP totally transform?
Today I had my first drive of an Impreza - a good looking 2.5WRX wagon from MKG3000 or twickenham Subaru (nice guys). Decided I could just about live with the cloth seats so took it out for a spin with a view to buying and remapping etc to 280ish.
What a let down. The car sounded, well it didn't really sound of anything -you would be hard pushed to tell it was a boxer engine at all. Incredibly smooth and quiet and ultimately not very exciting at all, even putting my foot down it didn't feel that quick. Gearbox on the notchy side too. Great driving position for a shortarse like me though. They said a PPP pack would totally transform it but I wasn't sure and it's a bit of a gamble. Need to drive an Sti now to see what that's like or one with PPP done or older 2.0 with PPP.
Anyone else find the standard 2.5 bland? Is the 2.0 a bit rawer?

Add a secondhand PPP backbox for £100 and a dersonated center pipe for £75 and the burble will be back! They are quick but just done seem it as standard like you say are so quiet, if you want more power though go for an STI

Take the sti out for a test drive mate you will really feel the difference, don't buy the wrx on the strength of having to get a re map or ppp. If you really want a powerful scoob the sti is what you need in your life
I bought my Spec D from MKG3000 I think the sales man was called Craig nice bunch of guys, had a good deal as well so make sure you have a bit of a haggle

neither is going to be handy, just before i sold my 06 sti i was putting £80/90 and sometimes more a week in.then you have the big tax, insurance etc.now running costs are aprox half'ed with my a4,only thing that costs more is servicing with audi!
then you can't help not getting it tuned, when you start you wouldn't see a grand or two being spent pretty quick! there's a lot to think about when buying a scooby plus lets face it real world if your not running big turbo's etc quite a few hatches will give you a good run for your money.

2.5 WRX disappointing. Does PPP totally transform?
2.5 wrx is a more refined scoob to drive than the 2.0. IMHO the Drive by Wire throttle can make it feel detached though. If you look at the speedo you are shifting but it just doesn't feel like it. The 2.5 STi is no different and still requires tweaking to make it feel more like you expect it to. The 2.5 is a far better proposition than the 2lt wrx, very easy to tweak to good numbers and loads of torque. Don't get all short bloke syndrome about the STi though, it is a better car than the WRX and worth the extra cash if you have it. The very same mods on an STi take it well into the 300's for bhp and torque which will keep you happy for sometime.

I bought my sti from mgk3000 in twickenham they are a good bunch there, as for which model to get, if you buy a wrx every time you see an sti you will wish you had one, so do yourself a favour and go for the sti you wont regret it, your local subaru owners club is Home of the Surrey Subaru Club! get yourself registered on there, they are very friendly and a great bunch of people, you will get good sound help and advice on all things subaru from them, I'm registered as Danny on Surreyscoobies i look forward to seeing you over there, and good luck with the car hunt.
regards
Danny.
