Welcome along, only just recently got a scooby myself and have enjoyed every minute of driving it.

When getting mine the main thing i looked for was engine maintanence, ie: oil/ coolant changes etc which were all done on the correct mileages.

the body on mine was a bit tatty with a bit of rust above the windscreen and boot lid, but very clean around the sills and arches.

Hopefully someone will give you a more indepth guide who knows a bit more than i do.

If you can afford the insurance go for the STI, better brakes, stronger engine and better suspension. Just check before buying as they are all imports!. I bought a 555 STI and have loved every minute of ownership, modifying and driving
