Default Complete power loss

My daughter's 93 liberty wagon is in apparent good condition (about 190,000 kilometres) but about every two weeks the motor suffers a complete power loss which is quite embarrassing in traffic. The motor seems to keep running (just) but it feels like it has lost all compression or spark. If you let motor stand 5 minutes it fires up and behaves for another couple of weeks. It is not overheating. Any ideas on source of problem? John

Is this after the car is refuelled? As for it to do it almost like clockwork I would think there is a external influence.

Not regular could be twice in a week then a gap. It feels like when a set of points burn out or timing sliops, motor just runs but no power then conks out. I'm wondering though if it has been filled occasionally with etanol mix petrol. Canberra gets very cold in winter and ethanol can take up water but if this is case I think power loss would be more frequent. John
