I had a MY99 (Version 5) Sti Saloon owned from new. Did 60k miles in it and it was fantastic.
Get one with bump steer sorted; anti-lift kit and solid rear drop links.
Did a bit of tuning on mine and it survived. The Version 5 has a lot more options in aftermarket tuning and you will certainly need it mapped for UK fuel.
Of course - with the right car all this will have been done.

I currently own a 98 V4 STI . Bought it 100% stock and its a brilliant car as is.
However a few handling mods and will be evevn 100% better!
Go for an STI, and check for everything u would generally check. Crash damage, engine knock, service history etc etc.
id personally STAY AWAY from pre modified cars. Alot of barry's get their hands on classic scoobys, cheaply mod them and wreck them. Go for as stock as possible i would say...

WTF? Seriously, this is Scoobynet, the clue is in the name. There are many hundreds of people on here that have owned and still own classic shape STi's. There's a search function that will answer every question you have. Sorry to be harsh, but it's pretty lazy to ask these kinds of questions when all the info is available at your fingertips.
