Red face Does air filter swap really gives 30bhp?

Hi guys, Thomas here, newly registered to the site which is really useful. Am looking to purchase a Scooby on a 2005 plate soon-debating whether to go for the sti or just the lesser one, guess a test drive should decide that! Am open to advice of course...
My query today is the air filter...I read in the well known jap tuning mag that AEM air filter kit gives 30bhp just like that! Anyone verify this? It costs £235 so if its true sounds good or would a regular performance panel filter be just as good? Cheers, Thomas

you'd be better off getting a performance panel filter for around £40 mate.

Try a WRX then buy an STi!
A panel filter is best if that's all you're doing. If you're going for a decat and remap a really good air filter will make a difference. Ask whoever is going to map it first.

Cold air intake with re-map then maybe 30BHP.

Best with decent panel filter IMHO

My previous car made 12bhp and 15lbs of torque with a panel filter change, but that panel filter was specifically designed for my car and was run on a rolling road, 2 runs before, 2 - 3 mins sitting with the engine running and 2 runs after.
The filter was an official STI filter and the car was a Spec C

Tony
Ps, disclaimer, not all cars will benefit like that but you should have some gains.

You only get that sort of increase with a dump valve
