Exclamation De-restricting for Imported Scooby!!!!!

I have just brought a Scooby which is restricted to 180 k/mph / 112 mph.

Does anyone here know any place around the Essex / London area which will de-restrict it? If anyone can help, can you please reply onto post?

Just need to see what this Scooby has got!

Many Thanks!!!

Hi, Thanks for getting back. My Scoobs on a 1996 n reg. It has 180 k/mph on the clock, hits that in no time but seems to cough and splutter and thats it. Really wants to go more!!!

It was imported in 2008 and ive heard that they are restrected to 112 or something? Really would like to get this sorted. This is my first Scooby but not my last! Need to learn a bit about them! Please direct me in the right direction!

Many Thanks!

I'd leave it restricted if i were you mate..unless you fancy losing your license or killing somone one day? Or blowing up the engine whilst already running on sub standard UK fuel.

mines an import wrx wagon with speedo converted to MPH, basically a mph sticker over the kmh bit and a converter on the back of the clocks. Anyway, it went up to an indicated 120mph no probs and was still going so I reckon the speedo conversion does the trick if that helps.

you buy a little gearbox device that fits behind the clocks. it changes the 180kph face to read in mph fooling the ecu into thinking the car is going slower than it actaully is.
about £50.

Hello mate,
112 may seem slow when it still wants to pull harder, but to be honest, the above advice is pretty good. Putting to one side the issue with licence loss or crashing, the biggest influence should be potential engine damage - any 100mph plus runs at even small doses can well blow an engine - the bonnet intercooler vent is not designed for these prolonged speeds, and charge temps will go right up. Coupled with fuel issues, this can result in an expensive bang. IMO, these cars are to be enjoyed accelerating up to 3 figures, certainly not above.

I know lots of peeps on here have seen 150mph plus with their special scoobs - a lot of them have had rebuilds on them as well. Enough said.

Happy motoring mate,
Mart.

I disagree. It's not an expensive job to do (most have!!). One day you'll want to give it the beans on a private road or track day and you won't want to get overtaken by a Fiesta will you? Also I think most people would rather buy a derestricted car when the time comes for you to sell. Just my 2 Yens worth.

Most people want to buy a de-restricted car??

Errrrrrr right

I for one would buy a restricted over one that hasn't purely for logical reasons!!? What a stupid comment to make. And as for the Track comment then fair enough..i don't know many tracks that you can do over 110 MPH for prolong periods but if you do then it would be an option to take it off....and as for the fiesta i'd show it my **** way before it even go the chance to GET to 110

Which are....?

Option 1: never exceed 112mph
Option 2: have it derestricted and know that (if you want to) you can use your car to its potential.

I see no logical reason for Option 1. It won't stop a car being revved and raced to f*ck will it?

Its not that these cars were designed to only do 112, its some "gentlemans agreement" going back years in japan that means they're only allowed to do that speed.

If its only ever for road use it doesn't really matter, but even if you only did 1 track day where there was 1 straight that you hit the 112mph limit on, it'd be worth de-restricting it!

One of those last posts is like another f'in "Nanny state, why would you want to de-restrict it, you should never be going that fast anyway!"

Spend the 50 quid, and do it. Then when on a track you can go as quick as you like, enjoy it

i dont mind if mine is restricted, there arent many opportunites to use a car above that speed legally unless its on the track, only had my car a week and now its running right is enough fun to the speed limit. my previous car a chipped vw passat tdi was easily able to exceed the speed limit by nearly double, i managed this a couple of times and resulted in a huge puff of smoke and a blown head gasket from running 32psi through a tiny turbo for an extended period of time and 400 quid later i'd learnt my lesson.

By converting the speedometer to read in miles per hour (but not by simply fixing an MPH sticker to the facia!), youll be 'de-restricting' the car. The 180KPH restriction in the ECU cant be simply removed, but by converting to MPH (through the use of a signal altering 'chip' or a 1.6:1 reduction in mechanical speedos) youre effectively moving the limit to 290KPH/180MPH.
