Friday night - dual caridgeway tunnel....me and a Jag XK8 - travelling quite quickly (me ahead on the inside lane - him behin in outside lane....
BOOM!...it's all gone dark...the bonnet is now wrapped tightly over the windscreen and roof!!!
Thinking quick I peered out of the gap above the dashboard and pulled in at the side of the road, to view the aftermath!
and it is bad, bonnet is a write off as is the roof - everything alse is minor cosmetic...but the bill for the bonnet and roof.....£1700!
Still don't know what happened, however, I geuss that the main catch broke and the safety catch couldn't take the strain of the speed....I am going to be fitting bonnet fastners!!!
Fun eh!?!?

Good to hear you're OK. You got off far more lightly than when this happened to me - it's pretty scary isn't it?
I was going about 60 on a 3 lane dual carridge way going round a right hand bend and was in Lane 3, passing a Volvo in Lane 2. The bonnet flew up and I tried to guess my way round the bend whilst braking. I guessed wrong and mullered into the Volvo, and get this, wrote it off, completely ruptured the fuel tank and the back end was a mess.
The car spun a few times and came to rest facing the other carridgeway, with traffic bearing down on me in Lane 3 - scary is not the word!!!!!!!!! Oh yeah, and just to top it off, the drivers door was jammed and had to climb out the passenger door.
Car was a write off, hope your Scooby is in a better state than my car was .
Matt.

I am positve that the Jag Driver had visions of a very large Bill....
On the good side...the red scoop cover had faded...so at least the new one will match the bodywork!

The day after I picked my car up after a service I was on my way to work. First time I had gone any speed after picking it up. Going down a dual carriage way at about 60 and suddenly the bonnet undid itself but was caught by the safty catch. Gave me a scare. Had some words with the garage after that....
