I think this is an ideal item that Scooby Net (Scoobyshop) to stock.
Maybe they could even carve there logo into the end of the bat, would make a great imprint on someone's.... Ball of course.

A rounders bat is better for in the house anti burglar duties as you don't need as much room and you only need 1 hand leaving the other hand free to choke the scumbag.
You can get these from places like Woolworths.

Pick axe handles are a tenner from Do it all. You need one in the bedroom in case you need to re-handle the pick-axe at a moment's notice.
I love the idea of engraving the logo onto the end

Another great, um, bat type thing, is one of the steel hammers that hardware stores sell, rubber grip, and can be wielded, I mean, used, with one hand.
Apparently a lot of the big American teams are using them this season, and if you cant find a baseball bat, it would make a great alternative to hit things with.

I keep a MagLite torch in the car. It's about a foot long and is a bloody good torch. It would hurt rather a lot if, as a last resort, I were to clobber someone with it. Pretty crap for hitting baseballs though...

When I shared a house with a few of my friends one of them had a Samurai sword that came in pretty handy for doing the gardening with.
Yes I am serious, we never cut the grass all year so when we were bored we used to go into the garden and cut some of it down....
Maybe you should get a chainsaw and keep it by the bed in case you need to cut any trees down in the middle of the night...
