just aquierd a vf34 turbo. question is, im in the middle of a engine rebuildt/transplant and have not got a mappale ecu or money to map yet.

Will the car run ok on the VF turbo without a map for a little while?

As 53WRX said, it is really ill-advised to drive around with not mapped into the system correctly.

i changed all mine. headers, exhaust sys, air filter, vf 23 form a td04 an bigger tmic an fuel pump an drove off the boost an was fine. as long as your not using it hard u shud be fine but get the map asap

Ive also been told i can go from my vf35 to a md321t and use the car without map as long as i take it easy until mapped. so i wont fit the new turbo untill a couple of days before mapping to minimise the use without mapping.
If you fit the different turbo and keep it in for for any length of time and you start to be less cautious as time goes on next thing your on full boost or overboosting just having fun and bad thing can happen .
Fit it as close to mapping as poss as you cant use properly till mapped anyway .it will be worth the wait.

why don't you refit your old td04 until you have a mappable ecu and are in a position to get a remap done so your engine is safe ?

because my TD04 shaft has more play than gary glitter at a kids party!
