Default Redstuff or M1144

Hi

Its time to replace the front disc's and pad's on my blob WRX.

I will be getting OE spec discs but want better pads without spending too much £££.

Which would be the better pad EBC Redstuff or Mintex M1144

I use the WRX as a daily drive.

Steer clear of red stuff they are sh*te!!

I replaced them with ferrodo ds2500 and am very happy with them for daily driving and on the track

I've heard lots of bad things said about redstuff.

Mintex seem to be the only recommended pad that isn't expensive. Ferodo Ds2500 and Pagid blue or black are very good but well over £100 a set.

On my blob WRX (also a daily driver), I've put Black Diamond Fast Track. They were around £70 and far better than standard even on standard discs. They are dusty, though, so I need to wipe the wheels after an enthusiastic drive.

I have redstuff on mine, only things I would say is they seem to work a lot better with the EBC vented discs, rather than other ones, and they do take a while to warm up. Once warmed they are great and very progressive, but when cold have a very 'wooden' feel.

Last week I had Ferodo DS2500 fitted to my WRX which has had a Comp Brake 'Porsche' 4 pot brake caliper conversion and I have to say they are the best pads on the market, good when cold and at low speed but also good when 'gving it the beans'.

My old brake pads would squeal when below about 20mph and when cold but the DS2500's are virtually silent, my brake pads were £172.50 from Godspeed Brakes and worth every penny.

The mintex 1144's are a very good pad for the price had them fitted on an AP disc/brembo caliper setup (308mm max size) and they nearly put me through the windscreen
A little dusty but I liked em

Use ds2500, performance friction or mintex 1155's and you wont go far wrong.

I've tried Redstuff, and guess what............They were rubbish. Now running DS2500 which, with decent discs (DBA Wiperslot 4000) give great results

Ok, deffo not going to get the redstuff.
Is it really worth spending the extra for DS2500 when this is for a daily driver on OE spec disc's?
These pad's cost double the Mintex

Yes it is worth spending the extra as I would rather use brake pads to stop the car, rather than the rear end of the car in front or a brick wall.

I am not saying that the Mintex 1144 pads are no good but I would rather buy the best pads according to application rather than spend on anything else for the car.

I had a Impreza Type R in recently with Redstuff and the friction material had come away from the backing plate.

Right
I think i might hold fire for a month and pay a bit more for better brakes.
What would everyone recommend disc and pad combo for a daily driver. DS2500 are popular but are these only good with better disc's?

All advise much appreciated.

1144's are great for a daily driver imo. They don't eat disks either like other performance pads. Very dusty though.

I have seen this on various cars with EBC products fitted, from race cars to road cars, don't bother fitting it, if you value your life / car.

what a load of pony !!!

mate personally i would go for mintex 1155's, there the same price as 1144's but work veryv ery well in a subaru

you dont happen to own a low milage blob eye and live around coventry area do ya

red stuff are OK but aint all that, the yellow stuff are a great pad for track use as there cheep to replace unlike ds3000's

personally i use either 1166's or the non road legal top spec mintex pads,, i have access to all brake pads aswell and mintex suit the subarus,, though they do squeel going backwards like a coooont

all things are personal and driving style is a huge thing to consider, ive just worn out a set of RE050 tyres in less that 6k miles for example and my pads last less than a year on average where ive got a mate who has yet to change hes pads on hes impreza

if your serious about pads ebc or mintex then PM me and ill put you in contact with one of the companys i supply who will look after you with a nice price

or tbh you can borrow my old 1155's that ive got, there close to needing changing and i keep em as spares in my tool box incase i loose brakes at a track day

ps: i sell alot of EBC product to companys all day long,,,, i wouldnt fit the red stuff to my impreza nor would i recomend it should someone ask, other cars are fine though

I'm pretty sure your brakes arn't Porsche calipers but compbrake which appears to be a copy of the brembo caliper (The standard STI gold brembo caliper)

Have a look at this link which is the only ones on the market with the carbon effect look

http://www.compbrake.co.uk/4%20pot%20leaflet.pdf

I recently sold a set of Porsche 6 pots to simb2 and these are nothing like what you have on your car, (Porsche use brembo calipers anyways)

Back on topic of the OP,

Stay clear of Red stuff, many on here have had cracked disked from to much heat.

I've used there yellow stuff in a set of K Sport 8 pot and found these very good on road and on track. I also used Mintex 1155, again very good but squealed to much to live with. I used to use black diamond in my old 4 pots and found these very good, cheapbut very dusty

Currently using DS2500 in my 6 pots and find these very good
