Lower car or new skirts?

The 'closer to the ground' look improves the appearance of the car, but whats the better way to do it? Lower it or get thicker side skirts?
Can I lower the car myself? How much does the suspension cost? I've heard it supposed to be quite easy to install...

From what i'm told, fitting lowering springs is quite a big job. The brake lines have to be bled etc. The rear seats need to be removed to allow access. Several hours work.
Lowering will have better results than skirts as your wheel arches will look fuller. Handling and grip will be improved too (lower centre of gravity n all that).

Getting a garage to fit your springs will cost you 3-4 hours labour (V.pricey!) so I would suggest you find a mate with resonable mechanical knowledge to help you fit them, buy him a pint and save yourself about £160.
But you do run the risk of doing it wrong and only having yourself to blame!!

So long as you've got a spring compressor, changing the springs is quite simple - you can snip the brake pipe clamp and slide the entire suspension unit out (like Prodrive do). The hardest bit, in my opinion, is re-locating the rear seat belt mounts. The rear suspension can be taken straight off but you'll have to mark the lower of the two mounting bolts on the front because that's how they correct alignment etc. On the front, you'd heve to get the car as high as possible as to let the front hub hang to allow you to remove/fit the suspension. Give it ago, it's the only way to learn

Back to the orignal question - how much does it cost to get a MY01/02 WRX converted to color coded side skirts - I cant see any option for this in the accessories/upgrade brochure, nor on the Subaru website.

I live in west london and by the sounds of some replies, may just be better to get a garage to do it.
Does anyone know a place that has an all-in price, so it includes the springs AND labour? I think £250 is the max I'd spend - is that unrealistic?
