Simon

I made exactly that point about the keys when I bought my MY01

I even tried to investigate getting a smaller key made

but the imobilisor needs "THAT" key

You're joking, I can't believe immobilisers need bricks attaching to the car key.

So what with the Jap version then, do they not have immobilisers then?

I will be writing to IM this week to ask them if they think I am being unreasonable. I don't think so...

Subaru UK want a bullet for it. It's supposed to be a rally bred performance car.... The mind boggles..

I think I might even stump up the cash and test that theory out. I'm off to get a car key cut and will try it out, as I thought the alarm and immobilisation was all done by the Sigma M30. Maybe I am wrong, but will find out.

Cheers

Simon

Boy oh boy, really have got out of the bed the wrong side this morning. I think I need to go and do some more run-in mileage to cheer me up.

The car must be good if all you can moan about is the key and the manual

Car is fantastic, well happy with the car itself. Put around 90 miles on it yesterday, and have got the rev limiter buzzer down at 3.5k so not doing anything that will stress the engine whilst running in.

So far though very happy. Had a scooby scooped Corsa Sri overtake me yesterday driving near my mums around Castleford. Was tempted to bite back but did the right thing... A week or two from now though......... Will not be happening again...

Will be around Hudds around 12ish so if you're around maybe see you.

LOL @ Scooby Doo Blue. You're right, not much to complain about with the car itself, yet!

Simon, I'm in Matlock on Monday morning. If you are about we can compare notes. Now have 2.5K on mine and gave it a few real blasts today....wicked! The good lady accused me of not going quick enough. She was eying up a tasty bodykitted Saxo in Asda's car park as well. I'm getting very worried about her, need to hide the Scoob keys.

The handbook is pants. You could put everything it has relevant to the STI onto one page. Revolution has the STI keys in stock, but have you looked at the price??? Me thinks I'll put up with a bulging pocket.

The key has a chip in it that is needed to disable the transponder immobiliser.

Yorkshire,
I had the same problem and posted about it a few weeks back.
Head office reckon its the right one, but it is not.
I shall dig mine out and give you the order code on the back.
I got my dealer to order this part and it is the latest manual including the STI WRX.
A guy called Iain told me about it as he had the latest manual.

Hi Ken

If you see this in time, yes I am in Matlock on Monday. 490 miles on mine so far so will be good to have a chat...

Guys..

I know about the transponder bit. What I want to know is, if I was to pay the extortionate amount of money for the STi key from somewhere like Revolution, will the new key de-immobilise the car.

Also, the point I am making is, we pay a lot of money for these cars (yes I know we could pay more for other cars with the same performance), and my last Impreza, MY00, had a very nice compact key, presumably with the same transponder in...? I just think it is pants. IMHO... Subaru can do better, they do for the Jap marker!!!

mccltd...

Thanks for that info, would like that order code if you can dig it out. I can then go and beat my dealer up with it...

Cheers

Simon

Sorry guys, forgot to post a reply to this one.

Yes, had a chat with my dealer and he confirmed that he had one that specifically talked about STi features.

I went to the dealer and compared indexes between the two manuals and there was a difference. He had given me one dated July 2001. The one I have now is dated this year.

If you speak to your dealer, they will have no doubt made the same mistake, because the covers are exactly as each other.

Let me know if you wan the part number. It is at home but I can get to it later tonight.

Cheers

Simon

Anyone recently taken delivery of there new STi7 UK. Got mine yesterday and was dissappointed that the drivers handbook was the generic one for all Imprezas. Not even an inserted supplement for the STi anywhere as far as I can see.

I know the extra features don't take a rocket scientist to work out, but it would have been nice to read some stuff on IC Water Spray, Rev Limiting Buzzer, SureTrak etc....

Also, what the hell do Subaru Uk/IM think they are playing at giving the new STi owners, the most stupidly hiddeous car key in the world. 2 button on there that do absolutely sod all, and the size of Mount Everest. At the very least I would have preferred a key like I used to have on my MY00, one that would go in my pocket. And why can't the tight sods give us one of the STi keys like the Jap STi's...

Come on Subaru, 27.5k for a car with a key that looks like it was destined for an Austin Allegro, what are you thinking of...

Sorry people for my moaning this morning, must have got out of the wrong side of the bed.

Please tell me I am not the only STi Uk driver feeling a little bit fleeced...

Simon
