Default Rattle from Bootlid. Help?

Having fitting a sti wing, I am getting a rattle on the bootlid. It is starting to do my head in. All the bolts are tight and there is no movement what so over on the base of the wing and just the right amount of flex on the top part of the wing to prevent paint cracks etc.

I have absolutely no idea where the rattle is coming from, it is not the parcel shelve as I have checked. I think it may be the rubbers on the inner of the bought. The spolier is a replica so it a lot heavier than geniune wings and also the standard wing.

Any suggestions on how to stop this rattle before I get rid of the wing and smooth the boot. (not something I really want to do).

If it is the rubbers then does anyone know where I can get some more to evenly spread the weight of the bootlid inner.

I had the same problem.
Firstly make sure the spare wheel is bolted down correctly and the jack and tool bag are not moving about.
I not sure what model you have but I have a hawkeye and from the underside of the boot there are 4 rubber stoppers that close on the body work, if you look closely you should be able to see where they meet when the boot shuts. Now all I used was 4 self adhesive cork patches about the same size as 2 pence piece stick them on the body work where the rubber sits. this stopped the noise on mine hope this helps
Not very good at explaining things hope you understand

I got them from a local hardware store they are used for going on the bottom of trophies and things like that, you could also get things that go on the bottom of chairs to stop them marking wood floors they do them on Ebay for about a £1
Let me know if this works (did for me )

cheers for the advice, definately not the shockers, although a greedy garage failed me on the rattle for the shocks as that is what they thought it was when they took it for a brake test. Cheeky t>>ts. Took it to another garage and they passed it. Although I had the last laugh, the dick who took my car out from the greedy garage damaged my front bumper so got a full spray on the front for the cost of a MOT. Worked out well in the end. did not give the garage much choice unless then waited a letter from my solicitor.

Simple cure ...... wrap some insulation tape around the U shaped bar which the boot latches onto ... in the centre of the boot lip ... about 4 times wrapped round will do it.

insulation tape? Sounds good to me, i will try anything, driving round with the music up pretty high at the minute to deaden the sound. How much is insulation tape. I may have some in my garage somewhere

Pennies ...... any hardware store.

Trick is to wind on an amount which stops the boot closing properly, then taking a layer off at a time until it grips solid ....... no rattle - works for me!

An old thread but the search works wonders sometimes

Insulating tape worked wonders after trying everything and fearing the back Shocks were shot

Having just picked up my hawkeye sti i also noticed a clonking coming from the rear, i also thought it was the common problem of knocking rear shocks so bought some lithium grease spray and sprayed both rear shocks. The knocking was still there and i then chanced upon this resuscitated thread. WOOHOO! Result. Not a single rattle from the rear (well, not until i have my chinese at the weekend..lol) The scooby smile is back all because of this forum. Also sorted my alarm code via another thread as well.
Thankyou Scoobynet.

Regards
Rick
