Transforming a GX into an STI!!!
After much much searching, have finally located an Impreza Blobeye GX in Blue that a want to style to an Sti replica. What bodyparts am i going to need??? Initially just want to do exterior, as no way can insure an STI or anything like it! May also make a bit of money if can get work done cheap enough, as im sure lots of young people want the looks of a scooby sti without £4000+ insurance quotes!!
And does anyone know of anywhere half decent in the Coventry / warwickshire area that can fit / paint them???

Hi mate, I've got a Bugeye GX which I have lightly modified to pretty much a trubo replica (take a look in My Garage).
*You will obviously need an STI or WRX bonnet and the scoop, just whacking a scoop onto your current bonent will look appalling. eBay for this...but be patient in finding one...
*A good quality STI replica rear spoiler will almost complete the look, but I'd try eBay for a genuine second hand Subaru one before you rush into buying a replica, as these are much better quality. If you do get a STI replica spoiler make sure a good bodyshop preps it very well before painting. Try Scoobyworld for one of these...
*Sideskirts: 2 ways of doing this, either forking out for a set of STI skirts or just colour-coding your current ones. I did the latter and it looks bang on.
With those 3 done you're almost there. Exterior wise you may still want to look at fog covers, winglets, and the front grille for the full-on STI look. As well as mud flaps, alloys and an exhaust system.
Hope this hasn't been too long and boring! But one last thing, remember to declare any major mods to your insurance company.
If you need any more help or advice just message me mate.

i wanted to do this 5 years ago, and the insurance was almost the same as an sti, reason being people would still want to nick it as it would look like an sti!
Make sure its insurance ok, or do what i did and wait 2 more years then buy a jdm wrx that had been subtly modded!

thanks tom. Sound advice. Yeah i will deffo be declaring mods, as have had verious issues in past!! lol
Heres a pic of car I am hoping to collect this week. Bonnet scoop and skirts appear to already be done, or these may be standard for the GX sport as opposed to the GX. What about lowering? Looks to be riding a bit high to me!!

Hi Mate
I had the same idea about 4 months ago, Just finished mine with little added extra's. I am only 24 so Insurance on a STI is a problem.
Have a look and let me know what you think, I have many contacts after building this and would be happy to help.
Tom87 is right, steer clear of the cheap replica crap unless you cannot find any thing decent after a while.

I'm running on standard GX suspension, mainly because I'm happy with the comfortable ride, especially with the speed bumps round my area. But if you wanna go lower, then there are countless options, personally I'd suggest a set of Prodrive springs as an all-round upgrade.
By the way, don't know how far your are away from Birmingham/Solihull, but regarding bodyshops I've always used Perkins Automotive, they did all the work on my car.
GC8WRX, I really don't agree about the insurance cost mate. I'm 21 and still can't get any quotes for less than 3k on a Turbo 2000! I'm now paying £850 FC with mods declared.

At work at the moment so can't view the picture mate, but if the skirts and bonnet are already sorted then you've already saved yourself some cash!

If you want to impress, fit the STI struts, Prodrive springs and Brembo brakes. Then it will corner and stop like an STI. Much more use if you like driving, rather than polishing.

I like polishing and driving. Driving is one thing but driving a dirty car is another. Plus have to start somewhere. Does any one know how difficult it would be to fit a turbo to a gx. Also cost would be nice. Not sure if it is just as simple as fitting a turbo etc to gain more bhp.
I have big brakes coming shortly but may have to change the wheels. I have another set of wheels with plenty of room for bigger brakes.

Hi mate, I used to have a classic 1.6 which I added turbo bits to, paid £1,800 for the car and sold it for £3200 2 years later for a lad who wanted a turbo rep, but car prices have shot down since then.
As for the car your getting it looks to already have the main parts fitted i.e. bonnet and side skirts. To complete the sti look you could get an sti spoiler and suspension (or some tein springs for your shocks).
I get all my bits done down Thwaites Developments in Warwick Thwaites Developments - Warwick Subaru Specialists
And my bodywork/painting done next door to Thwaites Developments at Paint Masters.
Cant fault either company, both excellant at what they do and on your doorstep.
