av 44.5 mpg commuting

Nope although it goes in for a rear ARB upgrade and geo with Litcho's next week.

Not until either subaru release a PPP or the warranty runs out. Stan Palmers are ddoing a 180 version though.

I'm with it, I'd love to see what it could do on a long run.

I've got 44.1 average since i got it, mixture of driving but mainly the 10 mile school run where the impreza saw 15-20 mpg.
Going to see about a chop in for a 330s sometime soon. The leggy is a great car, loads of toys, comfy, quiet, but bored now.....................

The engine is easily capable of 180 on standard internals (and so on), from what I have heard from the folks at Subaru, and to be honest from my Forester I would say it is true.

The engine is great, except I find the Foresters gearbox a bit crappy to be honest. I miss my Golf IVs (150 PS) 6 speed box.............

I ve had mine for a month now and 1400 miles on it

averageing 43.7 since i got it so slightly dissapointed after the Octavias 54.6 over 72k miles and 6 years though ,but think as its only running in and im having too much fun in it at the moment and had only one long run to NBO and back (fast) so hasnt settled down to a 50 MPG but i think i will get there with it

Fantastic car very fast 3-4 gear well equiped

I still have the green wagon as a weekend car so best of both worlds

Would I recomend buying one

YES

Ring and ask for Ian Armstrong they have their white demo in and had a lovely Red one in the showroom which they got in as soon as I bought the blue one from them

OK I have to spill my beans to help kill some of the anti-Diesel squad.

(I have had a series of diesel cars and own one now, along with a petrol, so I'm not biased but can appreciate the finer qualities of each type of fuel.)

About a 1-2 years ago, someone I know who was at a Subaru proving track in Japan, stumbled upon a Legacy (if I'm not mistaken) with a TWIN-TURBO Diesel engine with a CVT type gearbox!

It was literally ripping bits of tarmac off on the launches, and other tests they were doing. The Japanese man with him, informed him of the above (as he had been suspecting)
He also said (off the record) that they were having serious problems with the gearboxes/clutches of both types (manual and automated manual or whatever), and the torques would just kill them.
As such at the time they were already thinking of postponing the project...........and it looks like they did.

Of course! The rates are killing them.

Didnt get the "derv" part lol!

But if they had a twin-turbo diesel and lots of BHP, I bet it would sell, especially if it were on par with certain other marques.

But that is asking too much for the company that has done what it has over the last 3 years..............

I have been mostly using the Diesel, as it is newer and more comfy than the wagon and not to mention the fact that leather burns you silly when in the Sun for a while......

To be honest at low revs it's like any tractor.

As you progress up the revs it has a distinctive sound, that I assume has to do with the fact that it is a Boxer engine........

It sounds quite nice higher up.

Cool

Yes the one thing I do miss is the flat four burble at the traffic lights but when i get 500 to the tank instead of 250 at a few £50 quid fill ups guess i can live with the savings

Indeed!

The sound is quite nice when you are stepping on it though, and at least the instant mpg does not go up to 1 mpg............

Yes being a true geek that i am

Yes it sounds like a tractor at the lights but Floor it and it sounds OK and will turn heads rather then shatter eardrums /scare Grannies that my Classic does ##

1700 miles on speedo now and gtting better and faster every day

Im now convinced i made the right decision over a 330s
(although Im saving hard for my next toy )
