Default 2006 2.5WRX vs 2004 UK STI

Looking at getting a new scoob and the above 2 cars fall in to my price range.

Is there a massive amount of difference in performance between the 2, and which would you get, assuming they're similar mileage condition etc

Thanks

Steve

The STI would be my choice with far more tuning potential with the standard engine. The 2.5 has very weak pistons (I found this out to my cost).

It all depends what you want from the purchase.

You will get more mpg, I get an extra 40 to 50 miles per tank since my remap. That is good for the environment. That means more puppies will be born and be happier.

Had the same choice when the Hawk came out, either brand new Hawk WRX or 2005 Blobeye STI, I went for the Hawk as it was a brand new car and I personally prefered the shape. In 3 years did not regret my decision once and 230bhp was plenty for what I needed, I did however put the STI spoiler ona nd bigger rims.

Now I have a hatch STI and the power difference is massive compared to my WRX, still happy though I started off with a WRX.

All depends what you want it for, I had no complaints with my WRX and it was cheaper to run that an STI, fuel, brakes, insurance etc.

The difference is much bigger than the figures would suggest; the character of the car is totally different. Most will go for the STi as it's more of a hoot, but if comfort/refinement is important to you then the WRX would be fine.

You really MUST test drive both!

Have fuin

I had a similar decision when i ordered my new hawk 06 WRX, could have had a new 55reg blob STi for the same price from the dealer. I went for the hawk as i wasn't paying over £20k for a brand new car and it being old before i'd even driven it.... call me a tart

However in standard form the WRX is a little 'limp' . After fitting prodrive springs, PFF7s wheels and the PPP the car came alive and was the perfect comprise for me. If it was a choice of two used cars and both are now 'old' shapes i'd go for the STi if you plan to keep both as standard...

Tony.

Well all those answers haven't helped a bit

Will keep looking and test drive, I think I'd prefer an STI, if nothing else because of the looks.

Sure I'll find one eventually!

Cheers

06 wrx with a remap makes for a very fast car, easy to drive, if you dont plan to mod ans use the car every day then i would go for a wrx.

If your not planing to mod i'd go 04 sti as i think std hawkeye wrx's look rubbish and i think you'd get board of circa 230bhp very soon, and yes i did buy a 2006 wrx hawkeye but it was a total impulse buy, love it now tho
