Default RWYB question.

Now I am pretty sure a few of you guys go to things like Japshow and Rotorstock etc and do the RWYB, I was wondering what sort of times you all get in particular peeps running classic's of approx 300 bhp.

My best so far is 13.8 sec, is that any good or pants for a 300 bhp classic wrx?
I do struggle like hell getting it off the line as the power comes in at high revs, so it just bogs down off the line.
If it is pants any advice on getting it better

I had the car on the rollers at Power Station a couple of weeks ago and it returned 298.5 bhp & 267.4 lb/ft torque.

Cheers

I ran my 94 WRX at Santa Pod. Slow time of 14.1 though. It was one of the hottest days of the year though. 260bhp at the time.

You should be getting better than 13.8 with 300bhp, you need to be a bit more agressive with the launch also, keep the revs higher, say 5k when you slip the clutch and foot straight on the gas then change, dont side step it unless you want a new gearbox

TBH I thought the same thing
The best starts I have had have been when I slip the clutch as opposed to side stepping it, but it starts to stick when I do that, the term rock and hard place springs to mind

That is an impressive time
I noticed you have 340/340, thats quite a bit more torque than I have plus I dont have a mappable ECU, still on 380cc injectors also.

I am hoping to be at the Pod for USC

HERE is the vid from Rotorstock of my best run of the day, it is at 1 min 44 secs in I think

This link may give you a rough indication of what times you could expect.

Just tap in your Bhp and in the other box the vehicle weight (including driver).

Then hit "Calculate"

quarter mile time Calculator 1/4 mile from weight and bhp

Aim for a better launch (1.7/1.6s 60fts) and you should be able to get low 13s.

Learn from each run and make minor adjustments like tyre pressures.

I have been taking a tad to long to get into 3rd gear, I found if I try to shift to fast I miss the gear
That is costing me time cos I am losing boost by the time I get 3rd

At present I have been running 31 front and 29 back, should I go higher or lower

You'll improve with time.
Id say that 13.8 in a classic with 300 hp is pretty slow, but dont know what the weather conditions were.
If its windy I never bother and hot weather isnt good either.

With the bogging down , try increasing front tyre pressures very slightly.
A little front wheel spin helps to reduce the bogging as too much front grip causes the car to bog down.

Japshow were I ran my 13.8 was blisteringly hot & Rotorstock was damp air with a strong head wind.

I like the sound of higher tyre pressure, makes a lot of sense, one guy from our club was running 36 psi all round and run good times for a pretty much standard car.

Just had a look at your spec, similar to mine.

Z4 Jecs ECU with polar performance chip, Apexi Intake, FMIC, HKS SSQV, Tubular headers & up-pipe, Japspeed de-cat, kakimoto exhaust.

Although I dont have a boost controller of any sort or a adjustable FPR, maybe I should be thinking of those items next would that be a wise why to go

Don't think my ecu is chipped, hits fuel cut at just over 1bar, and I've got standard headers.

Boost controller of some sort would probably be a good idea, Apexi AVCR is what I would have bought - had I known better at the time.

Only have the Fuelab FPR fitted because it was a freebie from Lateral Performance.

Want a faster 1/4 mile car, then you need lots of practice IMHO. Either that or be a lot harder on your car, some of my launches at SSO last year were in excess of 6K rpm

Excuse my ignorance but what would fitting a boost controller do exactly, apart from being able to adjust boost levels? or am I missing the bigger picture and with higher boost levels I would imagine more fuel would be needed also, so a higher fuel pressure needed maybe??

6K launches that is brave
I just about manage a 5K launch

Standard RA = 13.1 @ 104 (1.9 60FT)

18G RA (400/380) = 11.9 @119 (1.7 60FT)

2.35 GT30/40R RA = 11.0@104 (Let off very early so coasted through 1.7 60ft)

just to bump this thread back up.. with these launches what clutches are you guys running?

i'm on a standard clutch that has done 85k lol and i'm planning on doing a RWYB event, not sure if i should use launch control for all of the runs or whether to trickle it off the clutch to save clutch replacement hmm
